I wonder if Aragorn underestimated these two women. Eowyn, in particular, underwent a fairly dramatic change by the time Arwen showed up. Still, it makes for some brilliant imagery in this drabble. I love the idea of turning one into Shield and the other into Standard. I hope I'm right in assuming that Eowyn is the former and Arwen the latter. The characteristics seem to match up best that way. I like the fact that both take the intiative in speaking. I can see that in them, and it makes me laugh. They're very different, but they also share a lot of similarities.

Oh, this was such great fun! Of course Aragorn is a wise man, he would see the meeting of the woman who loved him, and the woman he loved, as a threat. It could have gone much worse for him. But it's very nice to see that you envisioned a happy ending for them too. I'm sure Arwen and Eowyn will have the Gondorian court eating out of their hand before long. Who could withstand an alliance between those two?

Very ingenious! I'd not ever thought of what the first meeting between these two would be like. Aragorn's nervousness adds a very human dimension. The metaphors of shield and standard are very apt for these two women and the manner in which each one served her king.

Oh my goodness, Gondor's valiant King holds his breath when two ladies who both love(d) him are going to meet each other. I love the imaginary you are using here Dwimordene: the tension is so tangible and in a way, you feel for Aragorn. But Éowyn has changed and Arwen surely can understand how other women can fall for her man. Well written and balanced!

Silly man! Did he really expect a catfight between two such noble women? "[T]he one has delivered victory, the other, hope; the one sees him as in a mirror, the other knows the depths of him." Beautiful contrast, and an inspired title.

Aha and you can almost hear Aragorn breathe a sigh. Nice imagery too in the title. Excellent writing as always!

Ah, this had me laughing. Poor Aragorn, after all those years, he still doesn't understand women!
