Post-Quest: Frodo sees snow on top of Mount Mindolluin. He remembers the snow on Caradhras and expresses a desire to see snow again under more controlled and more pleasant circumstances, and so Frodo and Aragorn and Faramir trek up the mountain together. What follows are some lovely interactions between Frodo, Aragorn, and Faramir: gentle friendship and beautifully done, non-graphic hurt/comfort. Minimal angstiness and maximum warm comfort, a bit of suspense, and overall a wonderful read start to finish!

For all the play in the snow, this was a surprisingly warm story. There was a lightness in its tone that was maintained throughout the story, even though the characters strayed into serious topics from time to time. And that lightness felt very needed, especially by Frodo. I very much enjoyed the give and take between him and Faramir, and it seemed to me that both characters found healing in their faux rivalry. Very satisfying.

Claudia makes Frodo's wish to see some snow under better circumstances than on the Quest, and to get away from the rather overprotective and stifling concern of his cousins and Sam seem very logical. And of course, Aragorn and Faramir would fulfill his every wish if they could. The h/c is gentle, and only incidental to the friendships being explored here. Very sweet indeed.

A sweet story of Frodo wanting to experience snow and an adventure that wasn't truly dangerous. Snowstorms and wolves and accidents and fierce battles.... Not fully within book or movie canon, but very enjoyable.

no matter how close the friendship there are times you go seperate ways for a time. how well you handle them tells much about how smother-ed (or -ing) you are. fun read
