Poor Pippin--he tries so hard, and tends to fail so miserably! Pervinca's angry because he borrowed a hair ribbon to tie his marble bag closed, and how was he to know it was her "best" one? His mother's attempts to teach him to mend his own pockets, forever getting holes in them due to his love of sharp stones and the like, has left his fingers pricked many times. He was trying to help Pimpernel with gathering vegetables, only the goose managed to nail his behind, and he dropped carrots everywhere as he fled her; I'm not certain how many baths he's had to take; and in helping Periwinkle clean the henhouse he managed to accidently kill his mother's prize hen! But Paladin understands, and finds a job that the child can excel at without causing too many disasters! Hooray for fathers who remember their own childhoods all too well! A lovely tale of farm and family life!

Cathleen's young Pippin (accompanied by his loyal knitted piglet Tulip) is rarely naughty or deliberately misbehaved; nevertheless trouble and chaos are attracted to him like a magnet. This story details a truly horrific day in his young life, but mother Eglantine is practical and understanding, and Paladin finds just the right task to make a small lad feel useful. A really fun bit of childhood fluff!
