Response to several MEFA2005 issues Posted by Anthony Holder October 21, 2005 - 0:37:37 Topic ID# 5784
Hey all,

Erin mentioned that the Browse Authors page wasn't working for her. I
looked at it, and it appears that she's right.

Some of these pages have behavior that changes depending on what season
it is, and that might be the cause. I'll have to look into that one to
see why it isn't working right. It should be able to sort authors
without having to look at categories, I think. I remember those being
tough, because of the way I had to look in a category, find out which
stories were in it, and then only list the author once.

As Marta mentioned, there is a 'Login as Guest' option on the MEFA2005
site that allows you to do basically everything but nominate and vote.
You can see the results as a Guest. I guess I could rephrase that to
'Browse without logging in', but it would still be the same thing. You
don't need a password to login as Guest.

I'll look into making the results (and the full story/author list)
pages viewable without logging in, so that you can give someone the URL
and it will just work.

These are all things that can be taken care of (and will, I think),
BUT...

Next Friday (the 28th), I'm taking the Civil Engineering PE Exam, which
is 8 hours of testing h*ll, and I haven't studied enough yet. Between
that and the fact that the Astros are in the World Series (Yay!), I
probably won't be doing any MEFA stuff until after Halloween.

I may mess with some of them sooner, just to give me a break from
studying, but it isn't likely.

I'll try to keep track of the things you've mentioned here, and look at
them when I can.

If someone wants to, it probably wouldn't be too hard to take the
various Main Category Results pages, stitch them together into a single
static page, and put it (and the conftool.css file) on Ainae's server.
If you do, I'd work with the HTML source.
