WIPs being finished off Posted by Marta July 17, 2009 - 14:03:40 Topic ID# 10118
Hey guys,

I've heard from two authors recently that their stories, originally
nominated as WIPs, are now finished. Those stories are:

Wild Roses (326): Nieriel Raina
The Flower King (88): Windsurfbabe

Next week I will post preliminary categorization, and these stories will
be included with the finished stories. However, I know some of you have
already begun adding stories to your wish and skip lists. I wanted to
let you know that these stories are now finished, in case that affects
your choices.

Also, I wanted to remind all WIP authors and readers of WIP stories:
when a story is finished, it is the author's responsibility to contact
the MEFAs about this. Really, it is not difficult to do; just email me
at mefasupport-at-mefawards-dot-net, and I will make all the changes at
our website for you. I can also update the information on your story if
you're still writing but something about it changes - e.g. if it was
originally medium-length but has now become novel-length. Just let me
know. (Readers, I have to be emailed by the authors but you are
certainly encouraged to remind them of this, if you see a former WIP
that is now finished.)

One other small thing. You notice the number in parentheses above?
That's what's known as the MEFA ID #. It's how the website keeps track
of which story is which. When I start posting the preliminary
categorization next week, you'll see that *every* story will be
displayed in this format: "[title] ([ID #]): [author]". The ID # makes
it easy for you to find the story at our webpage. Just log in, click the
"Stories" link at the top of the page, and do a search for the ID#,
followed by the # symbol. So searching for "88#" would bring up The
Flower King -- and doing a similar search for any other ID # will pull
up that other story. You can then find all the story info, and you can
enter your vote for it by clicking the "Enter New Vote" link on the
right side of the screen. A little trick you might find useful as we
approach the check ballots next week.

Hiya Nancy,

No - you don't need to click that link. That's there on every page of
the story list, and is mostly there for admins like me who need to work
with withdrawn stories.

When I type in 88# the story is showing up for me. Is it possible you
told the website to "skip" this story? Basically what searching for 88#
does is, it searches through the stories the website is displaying and
displays any that have that ID #. Skipped stories aren't displayed
unless you tell the website to, and so searching for 88# won't pull that
story up.

You can display the stories you've told the site to "skip" by using the
filters. Make your way to the list of stories just like you did when you
searched for "88#". But this time click the "Show Filters" link. See the
"Review Status" option? Select "Skip" and then click the "Display
selected nominations." You can then use the "[ID]#" trick to pull up a
specific story on your skip list. (Still useful if you've put a lot of
stories there.)
