If anyone is worried about ads on LJ and cannot afford a paid account, it is possible to get rid of them by having a basic account. The drawback is only 6 icons and no scrapbook, but if you just use LJ for reading it works well.

1. Log into LJ

2. Go to manage account settings

3. You will reach a page, "My account settings"

Chick"Change" where it says Account Level" at the top of the page.

Select "Downgrade to a basic account" the third option. Click "Change your account level"

Click "Downgrade " at the bottom of the next page and you are rid of the ads forever!

Hope this helps.It only takes a couple of minutes.
