It seems as if Stories of Arda is down today. I don't know why, but it
might be a problem if it can't be fixed soon.

One of the mods there has explained that the host just upgraded some equipment
and it's hiccuping. They are working on it now.

Thanks for letting me know about this. I'm inclined to give them a day,

tomorrow, and if it isn't fixed by then I'll look at swapping out URLs.
I'm not a member of the SOA listserv - can you or someone else let us
know if they say they got it fixed?

Hi Dreamflower and all,
Thanks for letting me know about this. I'm inclined to give them a day,
since we're so far away from the deadline. However I will check
tomorrow, and if it isn't fixed by then I'll look at swapping out URLs.

As of this time it is apparently back down once more. They are probably working
on reconstructing it once more, remembering the time of the great hacking.

There is an explanation over at LOTR_Community_GFIC about why SoA is currently down -- the short version of it is that they are working to restore the missing data and have turned things off so that any new additions don't get lost in the shuffle. Something like that! They hope to be back up today sometime.

site back up ASAP. I think Rorrah and Nilmandra are working to get the
data back, and they expect to, though as with all technical issues the
"when" is sometimes a bit less predictable. :-)
Larner forwarded an announcement made by Rorrah, to another listserv I
belong to. (I do not personally belong to the SOA listserv, where the
announcements were initially made.) I am including them below, for
everyone's information; I cannot be sure how up-to-date they are,
though. If you or anyone else wants to receive all SOA announcements,
their listserv is
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/stories_of_arda/
So I expect the data will be coming back, and urge everyone to be
patient. As for our own links to SOA, I am working right now on getting
those updated.

All right, this ended up being partly our fault and partly the ISP's fault.
It turns out they migrated servers back in March. They even sent us an
email to
let us know.
Our fault, we didn't read it all the way through to realize we needed to do
something.
Their fault, they didn't tell us all that we needed to do.
So 4 months after migration, they decided to force the issue and we are
now on
their NEW system, bad news, the NEW system is exactly what the website
looked
like in March.
I have temporarily disabled the LOGIN feature until they fix the database.
They're going to track down the database that we've been using since
March and I
don't want any new data to get lost in the meantime.
It should all be resolved by tomorrow.
