Is anyone else having trouble navigating through the site, or leaving a review? I was not able to open up various pieces to review, and the Filter did not work properly, when I was going through Google Chrome. The screen kept freezing, too. Then I switched to Safari, and I was able to review a piece, but it took awhile to save the review. Is it my computer, or is anyone else having similar problems?

Hiya Raksha,
Is this a new issue? Have you used these features before and are only now
having trouble?
I'm sure Aranel and/or Tanaqui will look into it for you, though it would
probably help if you could give specific information like what browser
you're using (version numbers, not just the names) and what operating system
your computer has.

Hi Raksha and Becca,
When you say you were not able to open up pieces to review, do you mean
opening up the review page, or going to the story to read it?
When you say the filter wasn't working -- how so? Was it giving incorrect
results? Not showing any results?
The screen freezing -- were you able to click away from that page? Was
something indicating "loading" (whether in the URL status bar or the
whirling bars in the Safari tab)? Or was the page completely non-responsive
and you had to force quit to get out of the browser?
The symptoms don't sound like a browser issue, more a connection issue. It
does look like the database was having some connection problems between 11 -
11:30 pm US Central Time last night. Was that about the time you were having
problems?
Thanks,
Aranel

Re: Trouble using the site Posted by wtiger5@yahoo.com July 23, 2011 - 8:04:04 Topic ID# 10911With google, I couldn't get the "browse nominations" link to act like a link. I clicked on it and nothing happened. The computer just sat there. I was able to navigate away from the page and other pages acted normally.
For me it was happening around 10am EDT yesterday. I haven't had time to get on the site since then.

That sounds like part of the connection problem. Because the tables are so
huge, I made it so the browser doesn't load the nomination listing page
until it has all of the story data loaded for the table. So it stays on the
home page after clicking the link for the Nominations while it's working on
loading the data. And in this case, it seems it wasn't able to connect to
the database to get the data, so it just sat on the front page, which made
it appear the link was not working.
I checked our host's support pages, and it looks like they are having some
network problems right now, so loading the site may be a little flaky until
they get things fixed on their end.

Re: Trouble using the site Posted by raksha022002 July 25, 2011 - 22:55:38 Topic ID# 10911I think I was able to click away from the page, or at least bring up another website and go there.
Just now, I wanted to review a drabble or two. I clicked on drabbles for type and length in the nomination filter, but after I clicked on the tab at the bottom (forget the name, it's the one you click to get to what you've selected), nothing happened. It said something like 'asking mefa2011', but the page never changed; nominated drabbles never came up. I waited five minutes. I'll try again later; but I have no idea whether I'm doing something wrong or there's a bug. That was the way I've accessed drabbles in the past, to go through the nomination filter....

Re: Trouble using the site Posted by raksha022002 July 25, 2011 - 22:59:36 Topic ID# 10911I was just trying to use the site again, to Browse Nominations. When I clicked on Browse Nominations, the page stayed still. The thingie says 'waiting for MEFA 2011', and there's a circle that keeps turning; it looked like the page was trying to load but wouldn't come up. I will try again later.

Hi Raksha,
Which version of Safari are you using? And which operating system? Do you
know your system specs (computer speed and memory)? Are you on broadband or
dial-up?
Thanks,

Re: Trouble using the site Posted by raksha022002 July 26, 2011 - 11:04:07 Topic ID# 10911Actually, I was using Google Chrome. I'm on broadband. I have an IMac that is less than a year old; 3.06 GHZ, memory 4GB 1333 MHZ DDR3 (quoting the specs from the info I have on file).

Hi Raksha,
That's faster than my iMac, so that's certainly not the problem! :-D
I've noticed it's been a little slow lately, but not sure why it would be
hanging so long for you. I ran a couple tests in various browsers (Safari,
Chrome and Firefox) and got load times for your search ("drabble" and "true
drabble") anywhere from 27 to 40 seconds. It's slower than the old site
because it needs to load all the data in to do the new "on the fly"
searching.
I'm not sure what to tell you, because I'm not really sure what would be
causing your load times to be so much slower. I suppose try Safari or
Firefox, and see if they can process the data faster.
I'll probably be looking for a new table to use on the site in the next few
weeks, and hopefully that will speed things up.
Keep me updated on how the page loading is going for you -- if you continue
to have problems, or if it improves.
Thanks,
Aranel
