This is set the morning after Aragorn's coronation, so it's post
Ring-War but still in the Third Age. I'm not sure if you want to
recategorize it, or perhaps just rename the subcategory to "post-Ring
War", or something like that?

Mild

This isn'r Fourth Age, it's post-Ring War Third Age (it takes place on
the morning after Aragorn's coronation).

Urk - this has totally the wrong sumamry! (I thought we had identified
and corrected this :-( It's in a message from Marta on 3rd May.)

The correct summary is:

For the Ruling Steward and his sons, the personal is the political and
private acts can have public consequences. Faramir's odd behaviour on
his return from his first month as Captain of the Ithilien Rangers
troubles Denethor, both as a father and as Ruling Steward. An
unexpected meeting in a place neither thinks to find the other only
adds to the tension - and results in an order that, ten years later,
will have significant consequences in the War of the Ring.

Thanks, Liz

Now look at what you and Marta have done.... You've gone and made me do
research. And to top it off, you made me learn something. I think you
should be ashamed of yourselves.

;-)

Okay, I actually opened the book and looked at the timeline. I had thought
that the Fourth Age started when Aragorn took over as King. Nope, the Third
Age ends when Frodo goes over the sea.

I had originally put in sub-categories of Pre-LOTR and Post-LOTR but didn't
think they sounded very good. While Fourth Age just sounded so much
better.....

Guess I'll go back the other way.

It could have. I'll go look for it.

Oh, good, I don't have to!

Summary has been changed to:

"Gondor on the brink of war is a political crucible. Those who would
dwell in it must learn never to blink, even when old loyalties are in
doubt and faith in the most basic relationships is shaken."

I admit to confusion here. Una will correct me if she feels this is
the appropriate category, but I conside this story to be complete. It
is a tangent to CMC, and could stand on its own without reference to
it all. There is certainly nothing more to add to it per se.

Okay, but there needs to be some clue as to who the 'pairing' is. Remember
"That Which Needs to Be Identified".

Una? Is this a WIP or not?

Remember

It is. Or it should be--in the DB's romance pairing field, I have
"slash". If that's not sufficient, it can be appended to the last line
of the summary.

Uh, Ainae, you do know we're *both* HASA admins and setting nuzgul of
all kinds on people is our sacred duty, don't you? No shame here at
all, I'm afraid >:-E

Seriously, thanks for the corrections. And I know you don't need any
more nuzgul, so I will stop bothering you now. You (and all the other
people helping you manage the awards) are doing a great job.

AW: [MEFAwards] Men Check Ballot #1, missing romance partners Jedis Posted by elanor of aquitania June 20, 2004 - 12:36:33 Topic ID# 1531
Hi all you hard-working check-balloters,
I found (aside of the explained 'Alas ! Poor Uruk !'
see end of this mail)
no missing stories in web or database of those I nominated.

But I found missing romance partners:

> Me4: Gift Horses by Jedishampoo
> URL: http://www.henneth-annun.net/stories/chapter.cfm?STID=3266
> Rating: PG
> Romance Partners:

Romance partners: Eowyn/Faramir

For Star-gazers is the only approval missing that of Starlight ?
Excerpt Database:
HASA Writer's Group (Altariel, Starlight, Acacea, Fileg, Chris, Forodwaith)
Stargazers (Men) Yes|Not Yet|Yes|Yes||Yes|Yes

Assuming that to be the case I sent to Starlight through HASA
a plea for her author approval.

Although I did not understand why Lindorien had to revoke her
author approval for 'Alas ! Poor Uruk !'
(she tried to explain) I have to accept it ;-)

But I think I truly did not understand the categorization rules.
For me Alas ! Poor Uruk ! has to be categorized as
1. Races&Places: men
2. Genre: humour
3. Time/Book: LoTR
as described in http://home.earthlink.net/~ainae/mefa/Awards%20FAQ.html Part
IV D
But when I looked into the nomination table I saw that many
stories where humour or romance with no indication of the race ????

Maybe next time you could write a bit more about the categorization ?
It seems to me now, that the order of the three categories has to be
selected
by the nominator or the author as may be indicated in Part III A.5
So that there should have been 5 WIP in humour to have
Lindoriens Shakespearean travesty in the web ?

Best wishes Elanor

Good to hear. We're still 3 off though, from somewhere.

Yes. We haven't heard from her yet.

Thanks. Maybe she'll reply. We've got until June 30th, so just 10 more days.

Well, she wanted it in the Humor category and since Humor/Incomplete wasn't
viable, we would have had to move it out of Humor. But there's always next
year!

It's confusing. In Trek it's easy. First category is done by series. Then
broke down by there based on genre (Gen and Romance mostly), then by
prominent characters or pairings respectively. But they don't have Elves
and Hobbits. Yeah, they have other species but for the most part stories
deal with canon crews or original crews, not races/species.

We have a wide variety here. We could only go by race/place (Gondor will be
a good canditate for a main category next year as there were quite a few
Gondor stories this year. Or we could go only by genre. Or just by the
books/times the stories fall in. Some stories can go either way. So we
gave the nominator gives three choices. The author can trump the nominator
in choosing a category. And we Staff can trump both only to make viable
categories.

We try to stick with first choice everywhere we can. We only moved stories
around to break up a non-viable category or to make a viable category.
Humor, Incomplete just didn't have enough, nor were there enough spares
elsewhere. By spares I mean the story would have had to have humor in the
2nd or 3rd choice or we'd just have to know it's main theme is humor. An
adventure story with a little humor thrown in, wouldn't do. And we'd rather
go with a 2nd choice than a third. But sometimes it happened.

We could always discuss this in the "post-mortem" (borrowed term from the
ASC Awards) and decide what worked this year, what didn't, and what could be
done better for next year.

Thanks.
