Added banners in the following folders:
Men -- Faithful of Numenor
Men -- Ruling Stewards
Men -- Kings of Gondor and Arnor
I'm just guessing that well-known Tolkien artists like Howe, Lee,
Naismith, and Hildebrandt would prefer not to be bothered for
permission in an instance like this. My guess is they'd just like
folks to know that their stuff exists, and that it's for sale. Any
way we can add a little disclaimer to the art contest web page,
noting these kinds of artists? I've noticed quite a few of their
works in banners so far. (Not to mention Alan Lee was the main
concept artist for the movies, so movie caps are somewhat
attributable to him, too.)

using someone else's artwork can be dodgy. Even for the well-known artists.
Howe, I know, wouldn't mind being asked. He communicates with fans on his
website and recently had a friend of mine buy a print of something he drew
that was made without his permission. So that he could prosecute.
(Disclaimer: my memory isn't it used to be so I may not have the particulars
of that just right.)
Anyway, and I think I'll make a note of this on the site: It's up to the
banner/button maker to get that permission. If you have a banner or button
up there that you need to ask permission for, you just let me know and it
will be temporarily removed from the website and the category folder on the
Yahoo site (and moved to Zholding). Then when you get the permission, it
will be moved back.
If any artist comes to me, saying we don't have permission to post the
button or banner, I'll remove it from the web site and move the one on the
Yahoo site to the Zholding folder, and I'll give the name and e-mail address
of the person who made the banner/button.
So far, only one artist has spoken up and that artist's wishes were
respected (she did give us permission). So, if you are at all worried about
any of your (that's all members, not just Viv) banners, go get permission!
For a middle-ground, let me know what disclaimer should be posted under your
banner, such as "art by xxxx". But you should still probably seek
permission. Just tell them that you are making a banner/button for a
fanfiction/fanart awards contest. Your banner may or may not be chosen to
be the banner that represents the award, but you wanted to use a picture of
theirs.... Be sure to tell them there is no money involved in this in any
way. We are completely non-profit and free. I don't even pay for the
website (well beyond being an Earthlink subscriber).
