More approvals and declines, and a bad link. Posted by Ainaechoiriel June 28, 2004 - 0:49:45 Topic ID# 1859
Teasel, I'm sad to say, declined permission to nominate her (his?) stories
as a way to protest the non-inclusion of NC-17 and a bias against sex but
not against violence. I explained the decision to exclude NC-17 (mainly
being that I had to chose whether or not this group would be Adult or not. I
chose not.) and the reasoning we came up with for what is NC-17 and what is
not, including the difficulties we had in deciding what a violent-oriented
NC-17 story might be.
Zam Kenobi, Katharine the Great, TreeHugger, and Sphinx all recently
approved their nominations.
That leaves us with only 10 stories awaiting permission, though I do also
think there is one story with a bad link. We really need a good link for it:
Lord of the Rings: Kyshri's Story by Lady Shinigami. The link we have goes
to the 12th chapter, I believe. We need something that goes to the first
chapter.
And BTW: I updated the website tonight.

Problem on website? Posted by Jo Dancingtree June 28, 2004 - 13:03:00 Topic ID# 1859
I've just been on the website collecting stories to disc, to read while on vacation (finally, time to read!). I got a few, and then suddenly none of the stories I clicked would come up - I tried in Hobbits, Orcs, and Men categories, but nothing.

So am I just getting unlucky, clicking one bad link after another, or is something not working overall?

I just tried several of them and didn't have any problems, but I didn't check a
lot of them..

I just clicked on every link in Hobbits, Men and orcs. I did find two link
problems. One had the double "http://" problem. I fixed it. The other led
to a wrong story. I'll have that fixed in a jiffy.

Other than that, they all came up. For anyone who isn't aware, they should
open in new windows. So if you have a pop-up blocker, you might want to set
it to exclude the MEFA site. I don't incorporate any pop-ups there so you
don't hae to worry about ads.

There was also one other ting. Marta, if you're out there...two of your
Hobbit Drabbles were confusing. They are nominated under the names of the
individual drabble (Can't Take His Medicine, Small Hands) but they come up
with the title "Sense and Sensibility", which appears to be the title of the
collection. So when a voter goes to read one, they may think they are in
the wrong place, as the individual title doesn't shnow anywhere. What would
you like to do about this?

Hi Ainae,

Thanks for pointing this out. You're right, "Sense and Sensibility" is
the drable collection. I thought about nominating the whole collection
but because of the form it really loses a lot of its impact as a WIP,
much more so than for many other WIPs. This is really a case of the
whole being more than the sum of the parts.

Anyway, to the question at hand. There are two things we can do:

1. Link to the chapter list of "Sense and Sensibility":
http://www.storiesofarda.com/chapterlistview.asp?SID=2100 . This would
show them a list of the drabbles, so it should be obvious you can click
on an individual title and go there.

2. I can add thetitle to the start of each chapter, isntead of just
making it the chapter name.

3. Let me set up the drabbles as their own story at SOA and provide
direct links.

Will any of these work?

Marta

Marta, if need be you may send them to me and I can put them up with their own links at Garden Of Ithilien. Just let me know.

I might take you up on that, Trish. I'd rather not create individual
listings for the drabbles, as it would clutter up my authors' page even
more. If you'd be willing to do this, I'd love it. Even though Legolas
is in no way involved in any of them. ;-)

I think that's probably the best option, now that I stop to think about
it.I'll email you offlist with the drabble texts.

Marta

PS- Speaking of drabbles, Trish, I still owe you a birthday drabble. But
I have the first 50words worked out. Look for it soon.

I like how that worked out. I had a hard time reading your other post,
Marta. Stress thing. Sometimes I just can't read and make sense of the
words. I either have to stop and read it again, maybe out loud, or skip it
and come back to it later.

Let me know the links when you have them.

Thanks.
