E4-2: Keeper Of The Flame by Larian Elen

Rating: R Non-graphic Sexual situation

Galadriel's thoughts of her husband are so sweet. I really like that
she thinks he is so very special, which of course he is! Celeborn is
an underrated character, and this little fic shows him as the strong
elven leader and good husband he was

Romance

ER2: Handful of Grey Ashes, Handful of Silver Tears by Losseniaiel

How hard for them both, but Amarie as a grown woman at least knows
what's happening, and little boy Finrod is clearly both just a cute
little boy, and yet as clearly confused by thoughts and feelings too
adult for him and the poor little guy is also struggling with
memories. Very sweet.

Romance

ER4: Of Leaves of Gold and Petals Red: A Faery Tale by Ithilwen

This has to be one of my all time favourite stories. How poor Feanor
has Really Paid for his mistakes big time! Brave Janet is a
wonderful OFC, so young and romantic, yet so very strong and
determined when she has to be, even to understanding that Feanor,
her Fairy, when changed by Ungoliant into other forms would not hurt
her. This is a changed and bitter Feanor, (not that I blame him) who
wants to make good his mistake to Janet, and at the end of tale when
Ungoliant leaves him to her, he gets his chance. It's wonderful
because you feel so much sympathy for one of two elves (Feanor and
Maeglin) that could probably be called truly evil. I still think the
line where Janet wishes she had a giant can of raid the funniest,
grimmest, most frightening lines written in Tolkien fanfic I've
read.

The Silmarillion

ES1: Brothers by Tinni

What a sweet little guy is Finarfin! He can even break through
Feanor's dislike to prove that all little brothers aren't so bad.
Strangely, although we read much about the Feanor/Fingolfin conflict
in The Silm, we read nothing of any conflict between Feanor and his
youngest brother. Maybe Tinni's hit the nail on the head, and
Finwe's eldest and youngest boys got on Ok?

The Silmarillion

ES7: Hide and Seek by Ithilwen

We start out with two little boys run away from home to find their
mother, and the strange and dangerous adventures they have until
they're rescued, then when they are safe home we see the family in
crisis. The father, Feanor, who can't comprehend, or maybe
understands all to well the longing for an absent mother, and who in
a very unelvish display of his growing oddness puts a lock on the
twin's bedroom door. We see the eldest boys, Maedhros and Maglor,
still almost children themselves trying to rear their younger
brothers with varying degrees of success. The hatred of the middle
sons, who feel abandoned by their mother, is contrasted by the
understanding of the older boys who realise something awful has
happened between their parents, and the final, simple joy of the
twins to be with their mother. The tragic figure in this story of a
family gone haywire is Nerdanel who simply can't explain even,
truly, to herself what went wrong, and who has to hide the ultimate
shame of her husband's behaviour and the knowledge her mother was
right: she should never have married Feanor. A heart-breaking story
that drags you in and keeps you hooked from beginning to end.

The Silmarillion

ES13: The Tale of Twin Stars by Cirdan

A rather different then usual tale of Elrond and Elros that shows
how they made their choices. Elrond as the elder brother tries to
sacrifice himself only to see Elros choice mortality as he knows
Elrond doesn't really want to be mortal he's just trying to be a
good older brother. I wonder, did they ever regret their choice?

E4: Across Dark Waters by Zimraphel

This story chilled me I first read it, and it still does now.
Maeglin takes over from Feanor as The Ferryman and has to transport
those that he betrayed to their deaths. A very appropriate
punishment for the greatest betrayer of them all, to ferry the dead
for all time.

E9: Firimar by Ithilwen

This is a wonderful story, to think that Finrod still looks back
down on his beloved Atani and their achievements. It brings a whole
new perspective to the moon landings, but I hope Finrod hasn't been
watching all the terrorism and acts of violence lately, that would
make him cry too, but not in a good way.

E13: Noldolante by Ithilwen

Maeglin's actions in the Fall of Gondolin; how utterly unforgivable
his is yet the author manages to evoke a kind of sympathy for this
elf who betrays everyone he knows to Morgoth, even the woman he
agreed to betray for. Idril, Earandil and Tuor are written as brave
strong good people, and do believe that Maeglin enjoyed his death at
the end. He should have gone to Mandos, but maybe he thought he
didn't deserve to go there, and that by wandering houseless he could
atone somehow.
