**************************************************************************
AUTHORS (remember to comment on the writer as regards to the category, not
the story, here):
Poetry
MPA1: Alawa
An Elegy for Elfhild
This was the best poem I have seen so far in fandom (as far as I remember).
Rhythm, style, words: all very well chosen and masterly used. Though a more
frequent use of kennings would have enhanced the poem's impact on the
readers mind in my view. The author has my admiration for her abilities in
crafting a Tolkien style poem.
Poetry
MPA2: Dwimordene
Eowyn, my fair one; The Hamster
"The hamster" is very well written poem. Though it has no content to my
liking it shows the prowess of the author with words.
MA1: Alawa
"Hearth Companions" is a title which fails to invoke the story in my mind.
But the story itself is gorgeous. It is a well crafted piece which shows the
writer's abilities for invoking a whole life by words. The structure of the
story holds the reader in thrall and the finish is the story's crowning. The
author is a good writer.
MA3: Altariel
A Pale Light Lingering, Adrift, Death by Water, Lady of Silences,
Possessions, Proof, The Burial of the Dead, The King is Dead, A Kind of
Valediction, Black Captain, Fair Game, The Sickle of the Valar, Through A
Glass
Best speech of all writers I know. Altariel is the writer whose words
directly speak to my emotions. Her plots may be not as inventive as those of
others but for me the speech is of primary importance. Her much applauded
story "A game of chess" is not so much too my liking as it renders Faramir
as shell-shocked, but nevertheless this is the story which induced me to
write my first review in fandom. I remember I sat through the night reading
this story really forgetting to look at the time. Afterwards coming back
into reality I spent many hours in the following days thinking on this story
and why it bothered me so much. No other fanfiction story had me musing as
much.
Many of her stories are part of my imaginary LotR Appendix G.
MA4: Avon
I will always be your brother, Ties of Love, My Dark-haired Love
Avon writes nice stories with well set words where I can feel how long she
pondered over word choices. All three stories here involve me emotionally.
She finds evocative words, invokes haunting pictures, and grips me by
descriptions of emotions which accord with my own feelings. Her pieces
remind me of intricately woven tapestries.
MA5: Beth Winter
Singer by the shore
Beth Winter is the writer of a well crafted story. Interesting Plot, well
written, good use of Tolkien's Silmarillion lore. The suspense is held by
ever new surprising revelations to the reader. We find here a believable
blending of Silmarillion and LotR.
MA6: Celandine Brandybuck
Courting the Lady, In His Brother's Shadow
Celandine Brandybuck writes long stories which hold me enthralled. Many
passages agree very well with my views of ME though other passages are too
light-minded for my interpretation of Gondor steadily withering in the
never-ending battle. Yet she writes of the "good" years before despair
engulfed Denethor so I can understand her views. Her sequence of the
"Steward's family" belongs to my imaginary LotR Appendix G.
MA9: Dwimordene
Kinsmen
The most powerful writer I know. Her speech is not as good as Altariel's but
her plots and thoughts are mind-boggling. Dwimordene writes so well that I
followed her through 'From the other riverbank' and was overwhelmed by her
vision. It took weeks to blot out with time this notion of Boromir's and
Denethor's homosexuality. And that although I really do not think that
Tolkien's Boromir and Denethor are homosexuals. She wrote it so believable
that she managed to change my mind for some time. "Father and Sons" belongs
to my imaginary LotR Appendix G.
MA11: Earmire/Nol
Light Lingering
Earmire can write very haunting stories which grip me by their vision.
"Light Lingering" is for me one of the best Forth Age stories rendering a
wise and visionary Faramir seldom seen in fanfiction. Each personality has
her very own feeling, one can distinguish them by their words. Some passages
even come near to Tolkien quality.
MA14: Henneth Annun Writers (Altariel, Starlight, Acacea, Fileg, Chris,
Forodwaith)
Stargazers
Though Altariel writes best, I very much like to read the whole sequence of
Faramir's star-looking education. The whole sequence produces a more
repleted feeling.
MA15: Isabeau of Greenlea
Blackbow; Captain, My Captain
A good writer who unfortunately for me prefers to write about an
unbelievable woman hero falling consecutively from one love interest into
the next and every time with another noble LotR character.
MA16: Jedishampoo
Gift Horses
A very interesting writer. Writes unusual plots beside the mainstream. I
like her stories. And all known to me are humorous. "Gift horses" is for me
her best until now.
MA21: Marta
How Many Years?
There are stories of her which involve me. One feels she investigates
Tolkien's publications and works on her stories. Her story is well crafted.
MA25: Tanaqui
Chance Meetings, Sufficient
Tanaqui is a writer who renders situations well. A bit more
unconventionality could give her stories more verve in my view.
MA27: Thevina Finduilas
A House Divided
Thevina Finduilas can capture the readers attention for characters nearly
unknown by providing them with flesh, wishes, emotions, thoughts making them
real.
