*hee* I laughed loudest at the name of the plan (the one about shut up
Gil-Galad). Yeah, I always wondered why Numenor was sunk! Funny.

Numenor
Official Voting Ballot
N1: Aglarrama by Zimraphel
I should have followed my own advice and "voted early" for this story.
Because I read it back in Nomination Season and now it's hard to remember
and I'm pressed for time. I'm not all that interested in Numenor. Mainly
because I'm mostly interested in Elves. But this and some others of
Zimraphel's pulled me in. I felt I knew this guy, saw the places in the
story. She brought Numenor to life, not talking about one of the high
people, the royalty, but of this shipwright. That I do remember.
N3: Confessions of a Queen Downfallen by Jen Littlebottom
Poignant telling of the last testament of Tar-Miriel as Numenor is doomed.
Interesting to think that Sauron told her to kill her husband and for that
reason she did not. And a baby? Good addition. It makes terrible sense.
Well done.
N4: Renuvammet by Zimraphel
Beautiful story about the meeting of Elrond and Elendil shortly after the
latter's arrival in Middle-Earth after the distruction of Numenor. Surivor's
guilt is a very realistic thing, and it was good to hear the results of the
storm in Middle-Earth and have Elrond give an account of what happened in
Valinor, as per the communication through the pallantir in London. Good use
of many canon elements.
N5: The Eleventh Hour by Zimraphel
The Eleventh Hour was an adoption of my own Nuzgul, which later became a
challenge at HASA. Zimraphel did a fantastic job with it, writing about Tar
Miriel's tragic life and last days. This was well-written and very well
fleshed out the skimpy story that Tolkien teased us with. Here Miriel gets
all the angst she deserves and yet she's noble still. She sacrifices
herself to save a child and the rest of the Faithful by not going with them
and not drawing unwanted attention to them.
N7: The Sinking of Numenor by Jen Littlebottom
I wrote this in my ff.net review: "It's great to find humor that isn't just
silly slapstick, but also is book-informed! And the Sindarin are better."
and it's still true. This is a very funny story which gives a rather
irreverent alternate reason for the sinking of Numenor.
AUTHORS (remember to comment on the writer as regards to the category, not
the story, here):
NA1: Jen Littlebottom
Jen is delightfully funny without desolving into slapstick spoofiness and
she knows the canon, so she knows what she's playing with! And yet she can
turn serious and write the last testament of Tar-Miriel. Versatile and
talented.
NA4: Zimraphel
I found I had yet one more nomination of Zimraphel I have to comment on.
Well, no one writes Numenor like Zimraphel. I'm not a big Man-fan and yet I
love her Numenor stories. You can see the island through her stories, hear
the sounds, smell the air, know the people, even when they aren't canon
characters like Tar-Miriel or Elendil, though she can write those as well.
She has a wonderful talent, and has wonderful skills. You don't find many
mistakes in her stories, neither typos or errors of grammar. Nor do you find
boring tangents that don't serve the story. She does everything and
everything well. She really is a great writer.
