Mystery

Official Voting Ballot

My6: That Way by Werecat

Deliciously and refreshingly original, this is probably one of the finest
fics I've ever read. The idea of Lord of the Nazgul confronting a cat at the
Prancing Pony is, on the surface, absurdly surreal, but a set-up that could
so easily turn into inanity is instead used to create a profoundly
believable tale, with a wealth of history, character and mythology woven
seamlessly into a short vignette that reads like a Gothic fairytale. The
language is lush and crisp, and the feline character is very accurately
portrayed, as anyone with any experience of cats will know. I particularly
loved the way in which our world's legends and cultural perceptions
regarding cats are intelligently transposed to Middle-Earth, with all sorts
of elements from Tolkien's canon incorporated into feline history. The
denouement of the confrontation between Ringwraith and cat is very ingenious
and makes it an episode that the reader can effortlessly integrate into the
actual events of the book. It's also not every day that one comes across a
brilliant character who happens to be furry, small and have four legs!

Hello, Ainaechoiriel.

I have no words to thank you for your kind words. This must be
the best review I've had recently; if ever.

Needless to say I'm typing and framing this.

Thanks again,
Werecat
