First Age
S1-6: Finrod's Oath by Jmac
Wow, this is breathtaking, Jmac! You turned this First Age hero -- whom I
never had feelings for before -- into a living, breathing, regretting being
for whom I hold much respect and empathy and sympathy. "My fault of
character is so great that I find myself wishing the exquisite loneliness
upon her that I have felt these long years." How unfathomably sad! Yet his
very introspection says much about his honorable character; as does his
honorable behavior at the end. Very nice story!

What a chilling vignette! Your Orc is so incredibly sadistic, feeling
empowered by inflicting pain - wanting his sword to dull so his enemies will
feel the pain, using his sleeping fellow Orc to test its sharpness. Your
descriptions of the sounds and feelings of being within the belly of that
mechanical beast -- and the Orc's thoughts about it -- are superb! I
especially liked the way you ended: "You are pig-iron and we are steel. We
have been remade, refined, perfected - fashioned, formed and forged for
fury. Here we come." That is terrifying!
First Age
S1-13: White Wing by Cirdan
Cute vignette! I like the affection expressed between Annael and Tuor, and
A's realistic expectation of Tuor's childish understanding (eg knowing that
Tuor wouldn't understand that Men aren't bats until he experienced the
dizziness for himself). BTW, "foster son" is two words.
S3: Gold Like Tears by Zimraphel

Ah, Zimraphel, I loved this story the first time I read it, and I still love
it. The golden bead is so full of portents and sadness, yet is such a thing
of beauty and craftsmanship (craftsElfship?) to delight all who see it. The
line of griefs that follows it throughout the years tug at my heart:
Glorfindel losing his brother, then his own life; the loyalty and devotion
of Ondollo, who comforts Glorfindel and later dies protecting Elrond and
Elros; and the separations of Elrond and Elros, Elrond and Celebrýan, Elrond
and Arwen and Estel. This tale, like the Silmarillion, is too fraught with
grief to read, yet too involving to stay away...
S4: If Women had Ruled Middle Earth by Mouse

Very funny! "Illuvatar knows we didn't need any more magical jewellery in
Arda." I got a good chuckle out of that, not to mention the fact that
Galadriel crocheted "yards" of white lace! LOL! Talking about
overachievers...
