Here's a question...re: comments on the web site Posted by Ainaechoiriel November 16, 2004 - 21:43:14 Topic ID# 2839There were a few (thankfully only a few) stories that did not get comments.
Do I put them on the web site, with no comments under them? Would that make
an authors feel bad--like I'm drawing unwanted attention to them? Or would
it be best to have the titles there so the authors see they weren't
forgotten but that they just didn't get comments, for whatever reason?
Shall I make a poll?

I've been pondering this a while from an author's standpoint, and I
kind of doubt there is any one, fool-proof way to please everyone on
that issue. My own thought is, however, to post the stories, even
without the comments. While I as an author might sort of feel left
out if I found no comments under my story ... I think I'd feel even
more neglected if there wasn't even mention of my story's name.
So perhaps just list ALL the stories, and where there are no
comments, either leave that spot blank, or put some sort of note
like "Reviewer declined comment" or something? Unless you think that
would be worse ... But anyhow, I do think I'd feel worse if my story
were overlooked even without mention, even if there was no
comment/feedback.
That's just my tuppence, though. You might try the poll idea, if you
really feel uncomfortable about it. :-)
Cheers ~

Re: Here's a question...re: comments on the web site Posted by Ainaechoiriel November 17, 2004 - 0:33:56 Topic ID# 2839Well, upon further reflection (aka somewhat obsessive/compulsive doings), I
ran somemore stats. Only 13 of those authors had no other stories with
comments AND are not members. I'm pretty sure that people who are members
(25 of these 40 authors) would know how things go around here. They've seen
all the posts flooding their inboxes. Some of them even commented
themselves. 11 of the 15 who...okay, somewhere along the way, my tally
marks didn't work out as I have more than 40 tally marks. Anyway, I had
more purple (members and have other stories with comments) and red (stories
with other comments) than there were no color at all (excel spreadsheet
cells--neither member and no comments at all). There were 4 blue (members
but no other comments).
So, I'm not feeling so bad about listing the stories with no comments.
Thank you for giving it sincere consideration. I appreciate it.

Re: Here's a question...re: comments on the web site Posted by legorfilinde2 November 17, 2004 - 10:18:43 Topic ID# 2839Would it be possible for readers to submit comments after the fact
if they went to the website? That would be nice for those of us who
could not possibly read ALL the stories, but would like to as the
year progresses. I have NO idea whatsoever how much work that might
entail, so if it is not a possibility, then never mind the
suggestion.

because spiders can troll websites and pick up all those e-mail addresses
and then those e-mail addresses get spammed. But, there are links to the
stories where they are archived, and there are review functions on most of
those, or somehow a way for a reader to contact the author.
