Post at least the titles, in my opinion. But, maybe others will
think differently.

Here are the stats:

Out of 552 stories, 9% (50 stories) did not receive comments. Many of these
are by authors who had other stories that did receive comments. There are
40 authors in all of stories that didn't receive comments.

I had thought to write them all personally, but again, I don't know if that
would be received well.

I am not sure about anyone else, but there were many stories I did
not read, not because they did not look interesting, but because I
ran out of time. I feel extremely guilty about that and plan to use
the reading period more effectively next year. If you do not post
the names of those that were left out, at least leave the nomination
list. I don't think anyone would be offended if we leave feedback
after the fact. Did anyone truly read them all? I must say, the
stories I DID have time to read were all enjoyable, and I am sure
those that I missed are too!

I agree with Mirasaui: leave the stories in the nomination list, but not in
the final comments list.

I joined the list only a couple weeks before the voting ended, and
(unfortunately) actually ended up reading even fewer than I expected to when
I joined. If I left no comments for a particular story, it was *only*
because I did not read it. But I certainly enjoyed the few that I was able
to read, and will very likely consult the nominee list over the next few
months whenever I have a chance to start a new story...

I have every confidence that, whatever the decision (to list them or not),
you will be able to contact the authors in a compassionate manner.
(Actually, maybe this question is best directed only at those authors who
are affected? Theirs is the opinion that really matters...)

Re: comments on the web site Posted by Ainaechoiriel November 17, 2004 - 3:11:54 Topic ID# 2840
I've decided how I'm going to do it. It's just going to take awhile. I
build these pages with mail merge from an excel spreadsheet. Mostly, it
works really well. That's how the nominations tables were built, for
instance. And how the banners pages are being built.

But the comments are going to take awhile because the merge doesn't want to
work smoothly. It wants to cut comments off mid-comment. So...I have to
copy each comment for each story, by hand, into one cell. Then it merges
properly. The "awhile" part comes from the fact that there are over 2000
comments. I've finished with Adventure, but now it's 3am. Time to quit for
the night.

What I envision when I'm done: A frame page where by the list of authors is
on the left, with their stories listed below them (and an Author Comment
link). The author clicks on one of the stories and it loads another page in
the right-hand frame that shows the comments for that story. Also shows a
link to the story, for any reader who happens by and decides they want to
read it. No e-mails addresses are showing (to prevent spam), so, though the
commenters are identified, the author will have to find an e-mail address
for them somewhere else in order to reply.

So, that's what I'll be doing for the next day or two. And Viv has shipped
me a bunch more banners so I'll have to get those uploaded and their titles
worked into the spreadsheet that builds that page. I can probably get that
done tomorrow. I'm off-work again because I KNOW I won't be feeling well.
Yesterday and today (Monday and Tuesday) were vacation days. Tomorrow
(Wednesday) is a sick day.

Well, that's it for the night. I'm off to bed to sleep sitting up. Fun, fun.

I agree - At least then you know that they
haven't been missed out accidentally.
