Comments up....some of them Posted by Ainaechoiriel November 18, 2004 - 0:25:02 Topic ID# 2867Well, I was going to wait until I got all 2000 comments ready, but I figured
I'd go ahead and put up what I have. So, if we sort the stories
alphabetically by category and then subcategory, Adventure comes first, etc.
The first 144 stories (starting with Adventure and going through Crossovers
and Drama to Elves/Drabble) have been posted. No author comments yet. I'll
work on those after I finish all the story comments.
Here's where you look (be sure to open this in a new window, there's no link
back to the main page): http://home.earthlink.net/~ainae/mefa/comments.html
and I went with the very simple "No comments" for stories that didn't get
comments.

html right, so you have to use internet explorer for the page...
Also, Ainae, you might want to just kill me. But the quote from Marta under

got put in the right place, I just copied the comments into the wrong cell...

message: no comments yet.
Is there a specific story w/comments we could all go test and see

write them for both IE and Netscape. Mozilla is akin to Netscape, I believe.
So IE is probably the best bet. I'll add a note to that extent in the next

Maybe it's something silly like...emptying your history and temp files? (That's
my default first solution...heh.)
And yes, you just click on the story name and the comments should show in the
right side frame.

For me with Internet Explorer
a click on the story name in the left hand frame
results in a to the appropriate comment.
Example: all of Khylea's stories have comments
while the stories are widely distributed in the main page.
With Mozilla the left hand frame doesn't work
because the # anchor seems not to work
as far as I can see.
Thus, one has to scroll around in the main page.
As only the story title and not the author's name
is given, Mozilla is in principle not usable
to search in the main page for all stories of one author.
For now one finds only those comments which
use Khylea's name within the comment.
Perhaps Ainaechoiriel could add the author's name
in front of the title, then Mozilla users could search
the main page for the author's name.
Best wishes Elanor

while the left hand frame calls a #A11 anchor
for Khylea's "To save a Hobbit".
Why Mozilla sees something other than Microsoft IE
I cannot fathom.
With Mozilla the call
http://home.earthlink.net/~ainae/mefa/stcomments.html##A11
leaps to the correct position.
Yet, the source text shows #A11
I didn't find a key to change that behaviour.

Re: Comments up....some of them Posted by Ainaechoiriel November 19, 2004 - 9:00:52 Topic ID# 2867That or I might try to work up a frame-free page, though it won't be as
usuer friendly. But I'll hold off on that until I get all the comments
ready. Remember that I have to copy all of them individually for each story
into the same cell in Excel. Once they're all in there, I can easily build
multiple pages from the data, sorted different ways. For the non-frame
page, I'll sort by Author.
In the mean time, here is some technical information: Yes, when you click on
a title in the left-hand frame, it pulls up the comments in the right-hand
frame. This is by using bookmarks, or the # anchor. The individual files
in question authors.html and stcomments.html. Anyone having difficulty with
the frames could pull up stcomments.html individually. It is and will be
one very long HTML page with each story's comments spaced well away from the
previous or next story's comments. That is so it will be isolated in the
frame. The stories are in this sorted order:
Category/subcategory/title. That's alphabetically. So Adventure/Pre-LOTR
is first.
I could also try using the anchors in the Winners table....
But first, I already have two time-consuming tasks: banners and comments.
So let me get those out in one format for now and then I'll work on
alternatives.

For me with Internet Explorer
a click on the story name in the left hand frame results in a to the
appropriate comment.
Example: all of Khylea's stories have comments while the stories are widely
distributed in the main page.
With Mozilla the left hand frame doesn't work because the # anchor seems not
to work as far as I can see.
Thus, one has to scroll around in the main page.
As only the story title and not the author's name is given, Mozilla is in
principle not usable to search in the main page for all stories of one
author.
For now one finds only those comments which use Khylea's name within the
comment.
Perhaps Ainaechoiriel could add the author's name in front of the title,
then Mozilla users could search the main page for the author's name.

just in the link to it.
Okay, try it now Mozilla and Netscape users!
