Hello,
Since my pen name and my Yahoo Groups ID are not the same, the site has me
listed twice in the author list--as "branwyn" (my pen name) and as
"branwyn_lady" (my Yahoo Groups User ID since someone else had already taken
"branwyn").
Is there a way to merge back into one person under my pen name?

it has been set up a third way here ... As Branwyn asked: Is there a
way to make my id here match my reg. ID?

(And I'm glad to see other people are having problems finding where
the nominated stories were because I had been looking throught the
'final nominations for 2004' and stories weren't listed there that
apparently were nominated. Thanks to Aine for pointing me in the
right direction...)

You *can* change how your name displays:

1. Once logged into the MEFA2005 website, click "User Info".
2. Change the "nickname" field to what you want displayed.
3. Click the "save" button.

This won't change the name you use to log in; that's your "user name".
You can change them both to the same thing if you like, but just
changing the nickname only changes what other people see on the
website.

So for example, my user name is aure_enteluva but my nickname is
Marta. When I log in I have to use aure_enteluva, but whenever I
nominate a story, the author's name is "Marta". Clear as mud? ^¿^

Branwyn's problem is a tad more complicated: she actually has two
id's, and I think she wants to have everything under one id. Sorry,
Branwyn, I don't know how to do that one. But I'm sure Ainae or
Anthony will be able to help you out there.

Thanks much! I did notice that on the author list there are other
duplicates--Elena Tiriel is on there twice along with a few others. I
joined the site after a story of mine was nominated; I am guessing that
caused the glitch. Sorry to be a pest. :-)

Thanks, Marta, for answering questions. I have been away from my computer
all day. You're getting very good at answering questions. There must be a
Staff Title for that somewhere.....


As for Branwyn, I see there are two "users" listed there. I will delete the
one without "MEFA" and "Author".

And has anyone seen Bridilliel or Bridiliel? I haven't had time to try and
contact her (or them) to see if they are really two people or just one.

I don't know about Bridiliel/Bridilliel. FWIW, I've only met the one here.

I also noticed there's Elena Tiriel and ElenaTiriel. I *do* know
there's only one of her ;-)

And finally, I can't find Elvenesse on the list, but when I tried to
add her I was told she was already on the list of authors. Has anyone
else encountered this problem?

I had the same problem when I tried to nominate one of Sphinx's stories. Sphinx is listed under just_sphinx, but I didn't see that on the pull down menu, so I tried to add the author "Sphinx." It told me that someone already had that user name, at which point I did a more careful search of the menu and found the name. The problem is probably that Elvenesse is listed by Yahoo identity, not that particular author name.

Doesn't this put stories which are nominated later at an automatic
disadvantage?

Yeah, sorry about that. I wasn't around yesterday to deal with MEFA things,
but that's one of the things I'll try to work out, beginning today. I'd
like to have the user name with the space, but want to ensure that it's the
one linked to my nominated stories (wow, I've never been nominated for
anything before... squeeeee!) *ahem*, as well as work out with Anthony why I
can't see the drabble nomination list (maybe that problem went away
yesterday while I wasn't looking? wouldn't that be cool?)...

Along the same lines, we do still have to get author permission for
stories to compete, and have the authors tell us how they want us to
categorize their stories. Should we not wait to write up our reviews
until we know that all the stories in the database have been given
permission to compete? I assume we'd need to wait until check ballot
season, unless we already have forwarded permission from the authors
to the MEFAdministrator and so know that we're ok to review
competitively.

Speaking of which, if we do have such permission, do we just
copy-paste the e-mail into the proper slot ourselves (or for our own
stories, just write in "Yes")?

Your "nickname" is what appears in bold in the list and in the author drop
down list, I believe. Your "username" is what you log in with. You can
edit either.

You can also Search the user list by e-mail (or at least I can) so you might
find people that way. I found Elvenesse under this nickname:

It doesn't because no one can see those reviews but you. Until Voting
Season. It's just a way to help you "vote early" as I've been advocating
since last year. Last year, I just suggested everyone write their reviews
while their memory of the story is fresh and keep them on their hard drive
until Voting Season. The MEFA2005 website even make it easier. You won't
have to copy and paste later in Voting Season. Just change the status from
Draft or Tentative to Final.

That is one way to review. I do a combo of both. I'll write a review based
on my fresh memory of the, but if I really liked a previously-read story
better, I'll go back and write more for it, if necessary.

I would think that if Nomination Season goes by without an author's
permission, the nomination in question would be withdrawn, and the reviews
would go away with the story. You might want to keep a copy of your reviews
still, on your hard drive, in case a story is withdrawn, but you still want
to give the feedback to the author.

You don't have to "vote early". The option to leave a review is just there
to use whenever you are ready. And you can edit it when it's set as Draft
or Tentative.

Same thing applies as before, if you get permission (and you're not an
Author Liaison), forward it to me. You can paste it in there. The Author
Liaison then assigned can pick up from there and get the catagories from the
author, etc. And then mark the nomination Complete. As for your own
stories, just put "Self-nominated" in there, then we'll know your category
selections, etc., are set and the story can be marked Complete.

This reminded me of a question I had. Is it at all feasible to have
the website display how long (how many characters) these reviews are?
It would be nice to be able to have this information available through
the website, but I'm not sure how difficult it would be. I assume
we're already calculating the character counts at some point since the
website is counting the votes, but I'm not sure when it does this, so
if what I'm requesting is too difficult, that's fine, too.

We'd have to ask Anthony that. I know it will count the votes in the end.
Whether they can be shown all along.... That made me decide to keep the
votes in my website still, so I could see them comparatively as well as
already have them pasted in as Drafts.
