Stories missing from the digests Posted by Ainaechoiriel April 22, 2005 - 11:15:55 Topic ID# 4029
Just out of curiosity, I looked upsoem of the stories people said were
missing from the database Marta is making. This is what I found:

Swords Returned is completed, but strangely not on the list generated when I
go to post the nominations. So it was never in my posts.

The Black Ribbon was listed, so it should have been in the digest.
Strangely, it was not.

Naresha has 3 stories on the list. None of them are in my digests. Hmmm...
I know no one would want me to post all the Completed stories every day.
That would presently take 26 posts!

But I will do that today and we'll see if we keep missing stories after
this.

Prepare your inboxes!

Scratch that, I won't be sending out a big bunch of digests until we can
figure out why Swords Returned is complete and nto on th list.

Thank you. Of my 7 nominated and completed stories, only two ever
showed up on the digest list. They were all 'completed' at the same
time so I was a bit surprised not to see them on the same digest.
What it looks like from the outside is that the line of code that
calls up the 'viable' stories is not returning all the right records.

Ainae,

I'm assuming that so long as my story is now in Marta'a database of
finalized nominations, it doesn't matter that it never appeared in
one of your digests, is that correct? She added it at my request,
but I never have seen it in a digest although it was finalized some
time ago. (Story # 687, The Terror of Buckland.)

thanks,
Kathy

Hi Kathy,

The database is an "unofficial" record, as are the email digests.
They're for information purposes only. The only place that really
*needs* to be correct is the website - if it's marked as complete
there, it will be included in this year's award, even if it never shows
up in the digest or the database.

Of course we want to get both the digest and the database as correct as
possible. So if you notice something missing, do let me and Ainae know.
:-)

See why I gave her the title of Very Useful Answerer of Questions?

She got this one exactly right. Website is what matters. The digest is just
that a digest for everyone to see what has been nominated. We'll do this
with votes too at Voting Season, just send a digest to the list. And Marta
just does the database to make looking up a story to see if it's already
been nominated a little easier. And because she has too much time on her
hands and too much kindness in her heart, I think. ;-)

Indeed she does! (Well, I don't know about the time, but certainly
the kindness...) Thanks again to both of you for all your work (and
patience with our endless questions!)
