Turns out it was a cat problem. Someone stepped on the surge protector that
controlled the power to my cable modem....

LOL, Aine, this reminds me of a story that I heard when I was doing
tech support for my ISP. We were tracking down a man's problem -- his
modem wouldn't power on. He could see the modem was plugged in at the
power socket, but the cord went behind the couch, so it finally came
down to asking him to move the modem in case the plug was bad. When
he pulled out the couch he discovered their pet bunny had chewed
through the cord, ala the cat in Christmas Vacation. Lucky for them
the bunny survived!

Glad to hear everything is well ... I was picturing more tornados.
