Website question Posted by dwimmer\_laik May 17, 2005 - 19:47:20 Topic ID# 4283
I don't mean to make more work for poor Anthony, but I wonder if it
would be possible to make menus "sticky" in some sense, to make it
slightly less time-consuming when we vote?

The way I vote is as follows (or the way I *will* vote once I've
finished with the stories I nominated):

Select main category. Find all stories written within a category.
Review all stories in that category I want to review.

What happens is that as soon as I finish with one review, I have to go
back into "browse", reselect the category, scroll down to wherever I
left off, and then paste in another review. Repeat process. It'd be
slightly less time spent clicking around if we were sent back to the
last filter-sorted page.

Perhaps this could be put in the Post-mortem file as something to
consider later.

Thanks,

Dwim

I haven't tried it yet, but the back button doesn't take you back to the last
filtered page?

Or maybe it can't go back after you submit a review, like I said, I haven't
tried it...

Yes, it does. But then again, it's about the same number of clicks as
it would take to click browse, select the category, and then scroll.
It also takes awhile, at least on my browser, to load both the initial
page anyway. If it were possible to just be sent from the "save
review" to the last filtered page you were on, it'd quicken the
process. It doesn't seem like a lot, but it adds up if you start
looking at just how many stories you plan to review. Doing a whole
category in an evening could take an hour, even if you had all the
reviews already written out and ready to post.

Hi Dwim,

Why don't you right-click on the link and select "open in new window"
(or "open in new tab" in certain programs like Firefox). Or... you have
a Mac like me, right? It's control-click. Or maybe apple-click. One of
those things. Play around with it; I can't remember off-hand.

Anyway, the idea is you can close the old window or tab, and then
you're back at the window you left.

Just a thought,
Marta

Yeah, that makes sense...like I said, I haven't tried yet...guess I'll take
that into consideration when I do get ready :D

I'm all for sticky menus myself, because like Dwim, I'm planning to vote by category, too. Right-clicking would work if sticky menus aren't an option. I've been doing that for some things as an author liason. But sticky menus would be really nice... Is that feasible?

Personally, this is why I like Firefox. I would right-click that link and
choose "Open in a new tab" which leaves my first tab (the list) right where
I left it!

But Anthony has made a change for reviews to open a new window, so that
should help.
