Re: Calling All Authors Posted by MarigoldCotton@aol.com May 21, 2005 - 17:22:22 Topic ID# 4349I posted a list of some of the names of authors from Marta's list that need to complete their nominations to my Recommendations Page this week and got this response from Frodo Baggins of Bag End (Febobe):
"I've e-mailed and e-mailed and they said that they'd confirm it. . .they haven't told me anything else to do and I can't think of anything. . .what the dickens is wrong? :(

What shall I tell her?

There, peeping among the cloud-wrack above a dark tor high up in the mountains, Sam saw a white star twinkle for awhile. The beauty of it smote his heart, as he looked up out of the forsaken land, and hope returned to him. For like a shaft, clear and cold, the thought pierced him that in the end the Shadow was only a small and passing thing: there was light and high beauty for ever beyond its reach.

Mari, I've actually had the very same problem with Red Autumn, you told
me you had heard from her and she would get in touch with me Thursday
evening; I've emailed her 3 times since then but not a word.
I think Ainae has set May 25 as the absolute deadline, so my instinct is
to just keep on trying until then (I heard from my next-to-the-last
author at 8:00 pm on May 15).
Another topic for the post-mortem: How much effort [to contact authors]
is enough?

Hi Marigold,
I only have one idea what could be wrong: I know some authors have had
a problem with their emails getting through to this liaison. :-/ But
all the information is there, Febobe's even typed in that she's (he's?)
accepting the nomination, and it all looks in order.
Ainae, can you finalize this nomination? I'll remind you the next time
I see you online. The url is wrong (it should be
http://www.livejournal.com/users/talechallenge03/11000.html#cutid1),
but it has all three categories and Febobe has already entered his/her
approval.
Mari, you can extend my apologies. I think Febobe and I talked and I
should have followed through better.

Antoinette,
Febobe doesn't need to contact you; this is in the Liaison notes field:
"Liaison Notes: Please accept my confirmation of the nomination. .
.sorry, I hadn't realised this was still open. :) A very delighted and
honoured Frodo Baggins of Bag End (FBoBE/"Febobe") :) "
So you just need to correct the URL and approve it. The correct URL is:
http://www.livejournal.com/users/talechallenge03/11000.html#cutid1

at a free provider, such as gmail or yahoo. (I prefer gmail, but that's
my personal preference.) We set it up to accept email from anyone
(i.e., no "blocked emails" list), and someone takes responsibility for
checking this email address and forwarding it to the appropriate
liaison.
That way, each liaison would only have to get emails from one address,
"mef-awards@gmail.com" or something like that. I think it would cut
down on frustrations like this. (And I'll volunteer to forward the
emails to the liaisons). But this is an idea for last year.
