Question Posted by ceana33003 May 05, 2004 - 15:24:59 Topic ID# 451
I've read so many emails in the last few days and everything is
pretty much in black and white. I have one question...Is it true
that stories nominated don't have to be complete? I only ask because
I found a few of the stories on the nomination list that seem still
in progress.

I love this site by the way. Major love this site.

If someone can email info about being a vote counter, I think I would
like to sign up for that if you still need people.

Incomplete stories (WIPs) are eligable once as WIPs
and then again when they are complete.

Question Posted by Lady Aranel July 06, 2004 - 18:46:38 Topic ID# 451
I just noticed that there are two stories by Eresse in Elves/Romance

Meldir:At First Sight
With Friends Like These

I believe this are at least the first 2 parts of a 30 part story. Not that they can't stand on their own, but since they are part 1 and 2 should they not be together? or since they stand on their own can they be considered separately?

Lol, yes. That does need to be revised - stories must be posted by

BTW, is there a "stories must be posted since" date? Or is it only that
stories that were entered last year are restricted?

Thanks,

I know we were debating whether WIPs had to be updated in the last year
or not. If we decided they did, then they would have to be updated at
some point between March 31, 2004 and March 31, 2005.

But no, there's no "stories must be posted since" date for completed
pieces. I'm pretty sure of that. They just have to be *finished* by
March 31, 2005.

Yep, if we were running our own archive, we might do it that way. But we're
not. And since we started after thousands of LOTR stories were written,
we'd be very likely of missing some absolutely wonderful stories if we
discounted them because they were posted before 2004 or something.

Ah yes, but there is one exception to our open nomination policy. It was
decided this year that WIPs that haven't been updated in a year are not
eligible.

So to summarize, and just so I make sure I understand it correctly...

Complete
- must be finished by March 31, 2005
- no "must be posted since" date
- must not have been nominated last year as a Complete story. (Could
have been nominated as a WIP last year)

Incomplete
- some part must be posted by March 31, 2005
- must have been updated sometime between March 31, 2004 and March 31,
2005

Is that right? I'm not trying to be legalistic or anything, I just want
to make sure I understand correctly.

Thanks,
Marta

Yes. We didn't have that distinction last year, but it was voted on
during the post-mortem and it won. So yes, WIPs have to have been
updated sometime between March 31, 2004 and March 31, 2005.

I had a fic nominated for a MEFA. Although I went through the confirmation

"MEFA" and no fic, author, or anything. Just wondering if it takes a while to
get that taken care of...

Skip and wish is a nifty feature to make a to read list for yourself
during the seasons. For example, if you see a story summary or details
that appeal to you, you can click on wish, and it will be added to
your wish-to read list. But it can also happen that you see stories
that don't appeal to you and you just simply click on skip.

Now if for example nomination season is over and reading season
starts, you can go to the option select List of Nominations, and then
you can click on show filter, to choose at the option "Show Only
Stories I Have Reviewed " the filter 'wish'. This way you can see
which stories; you reminded yourself that you wanted to read them.

I hope this made sense...

Hi Periantari,

To nominate a story, go to http://www.mefawards.net/MEFA2006/ and log in
with the user name and password that should have been sent to you within
twenty-four hours of joining this group. In case you have forgotten it or
never received it, I'll send it to you via private email.

Anyway, once you log in you should see a series of links to differnet
portions of the site. The first two let you nominate a story. Click on the
link, fill in the form, and we take it from there.

Hi Calenlass,

We do need an email address that the author checks regularly in order to
nominate for these awards. If you don't know the author's email address,
maybe you could try leaving a review for them at a place where they post
their stories, saying something like,

*******
Greetings Author,

My name is Calenlass, and I'd like to nominate your story, [title], for
the Middle-earth Fanfiction Awards. In order to nominate you, I need to
give the awards maintainers an email where they can reach you. Would you
mind me doing this? Could you email me at [your email] to discuss this
situation?

Thanks,

Calenlass
*******

If they're uncomfortable giving out their normal email, then they could
establish a special email address where we could contact them for these
awards - Hotmail, Gmail, Yahoo, and many other services provide free
email. As long as they'd check it during the awards, that would be fine.

But, yeah, we really do need an email address for them, so our
volunteers can contact them.

Question Posted by Agape 4Rivendell May 25, 2009 - 12:22:52 Topic ID# 451
Please forgive me for my confusion.

Are we allowed to tell people that a story of ours has been nominated??? I
didn't see anything in the FAQs.

I could be confusing MEFAs with other websites.

Again, very sorry for my obvious comfustication.

Blessings,
Agape

As far as I know, we are allowed to tell people that we have been nominated (e.g. you could put "Thank you to Robinka who nominated this piece at the MEFAs") but we cannot solicit people to vote for us so comments like "PLEASE VOTE for me!!!" are a no no. :)

Hi Agape,

Yes you may absolutely do this. The only thing we ask is that you don't
tell all your friends to come vote for you specifically.

You can even encourage your friends to get involved with the MEFAs --the
more the merrier-- just encourage them to get involved generally and
vote for whatever they like, rather than you specifically.

Thanks bunches! I 'knew' there was something - it's the 'vote for me'
that's the no no!

And - n_J - glad I'm not the only one!

Blessings
