Genres: Romance, Check Ballot #1 Posted by Ainaechoiriel June 06, 2005 - 23:26:00 Topic ID# 4531
Check Ballots for Main Category Genres: Romance

Walls and Gates (1041): Adina ATL
PG, Reason for Rating: adult themes
Romance Partners: Galadriel/Narvi
After completing the Doors of Durin, Narvi travels to Ost-in-Edhil at
Galadriel's "request" to help with the building of that city's defenses.
This is a sequel.

Lantern Gift (1241): Claudia
R, Reason for Rating: Interspecies slash. Violence.
Romance Partners: Frodo/Faramir
AU. Pre-LOTR. Bilbo has sold Bag End and taken young Frodo with him to
settle in Bree. Faramir has been banished by Denethor and sent to keep the
peace in Bree, which has become overrun by ruffians. Faramir and Frodo meet.

Before I Go To Sleep (869): Cuthalion
R, Reason for Rating: This story is listed as NC-17 on the Open Scrolls site
because Open Scrolls requires any story with a sex act described and
occuring in the story to be listed as NC-17. However, it is, IMHO, R at
best, and would be listed as such if judging just by the ratings as put
forth by the Motion Picture Association's ratings (which I assume you folks
follow).
Romance Partners: Frodo/OFC
A lovestory between the Ringbearer and a girl from Hobbiton. It's obviously
AU and a tale about what might have been if Frodo had ever found a love of
his own. What would happen when the danger of the ring is revealed and Frodo
has to leave? Would she wait for his return? And how would she handle the
fact to be left behind again - and this time forever?

Love Sweet As Poison (694): Dwimordene
R, Reason for Rating: adult themes, erotic content
Romance Partners: Denethor/Finduilas
The tale of Denethor and Finduilas. A perverse romance; be amazed that
Boromir and Faramir turned out as well as they did!

Discovery (740): Isabeau of Greenlea

This tale is not listed as WIP, but it still is one (though it will
probably be finished at the end of this month or the beginning of
the next, therefore there might be no need to change anything...)

Cuthalion, I just looked up the orginal nomination e-mail you
received. Back then I noted it was a WIP and it is listed in the
liaison notes. It was nominated as Story: Novella by Ariel.

You replied the same day with: I am glad about the nomination and I
gladly accept it, of course. The suggested categories, the summary,
rating and URL are correct. Thank you very much!

I hope this clarifies why it is listed like that in the system.

For now we'll change it to Incomplete. Let us know when it's finished and
we'll change it back.

Put "French Proverb" in parentheses? Or put a period afterwards? IMO
something is needed to separate the introductory quote from the brief
summary afterward.

Should you not have done that when you approved of the nomination? And now
it's in the wrong subcategory because it's a Ficlet and a drabble. Goody,
twice the work for me.

When I approved this one, I'm almost sure that I thought double
drabbles were still counted in the drabble subcategory. Believe me, I
am not trying to count more work for you. Really. But I am sorry that
work just got more busy for you. Do you need to delegate some of this?
Extend check ballot season again? We can be flexible.

The one thign I absolutley do NOT want to do is extend it again. I want it
over and done. The MEFA2005 site did a LOT to take a load off my back for
running these awards. Until Check Ballot season. My life (with the
exception of that retreat) has been nothing but this since the start of
Check ballot season. So much so that I was actually feeling guilty for not
working at work. I'm not writing. I'm not reading, I'm not keeping up with
my mail or my housework or my laundry, etc. After Check Ballot, there's
very little to do but read before Voting Season. It will feel like a
vacation. Just help me get it over with!

So please, no more "delete a period"; "add a period" or anything else you
KNOW I'd say "no" to. And Marta, thanks to your helpfulness, you have the
same access to the MEFA2005 site as I do. You could edit your own stories.

I really do appreciate your help and if you want to take over "corrections"
during Check Ballot season next year, I'll let you.

I can understand that. I'm ready to get them over with myself, but I
thought that maybe taking the deadline pressure off you might make them
easier to get through. Whatever you want.

As I explained before, I did all of those comments in one batch. Before
I saw any of your comments about not making that picky of suggestions.
So while you're just now seeing them, I had already made them way
before you told me to stop making them, or at least before I saw that
comment. I won't be making any more suggestions of the sort any more,
don't worry.

Yes, I know. I didn't think of that when I was going through; to be
honest, I wasn't even looking at the author, I was looking at the
reason for rating and the summary more than anything. But I will handle
my own.

At the moment I'm sufficiently reluctant. (You're not the only one
who's stressed to the max right now... did I mention I just finished
the midterms for my first summer session and am facing paper deadlines?
So I'm going to be busy too.) I'm not saying "no way", I just can't
commit to anything at this second.

So we'll see.

Well, I didn't realize that since there were so many of your posts after my
posts. So sorry if I jumped on you.

So do I. I want things settled as soon as reasonable so I can start
reading stories. ;-) If you think you can get this done quickly without
it being too much of a stress, that's fine too. I just thought that it
might make things simply.

It's okay. I probably jumped back. I think we're both stressed, and I
know that my temper has been short for lots of reasons (most of them
not at all related to the MEFAs). So I'm sorry myself.
