First of all, a huge thank you to all the categorisers for all their
hard work on what I know must have been a very difficult task.

Now on to the quibbles. ;-)

> SubCategory: Books/Time: Post-Ring War: General Drabble

> Greater Gift, The (540): Tanaqui
> G, Reason for Rating: n/a
> Romance Partners: n/a
> As she arrives in Valinor, Galadriel reflects on her experience with Frodo
> in Valinor.

The summary should probably read "As she arrives in Valinor, Galadriel
reflects on her experience with Frodo." ie delete the final two words
"in Valinor." (But as I should have checked this properly when I
approved the nomination, I can quite understand if it doesn't get changed.)

> SubCategory: Books/Time: Post-Ring War: General Drabble

> Returning from a Wedding (1379): Tanaqui
> G, Reason for Rating: n/a
> Romance Partners: n/a
> Imrahil and his family reflect on Lothíriel's absence.

> G, Reason for Rating: n/a

> Imrahil reflects...

Although I'm quite happy with these being in "Books/Time: Post-Ring War:
General Drabble", they could also both go in "Books/Time: Post-Ring War:
Gondor Drabble". Certainly neither of them are any less "Gondorian" than
"Refuge for the Weary, A (547)" which is in "Books/Time: Post-Ring War:
Gondor Drabble". So if you have any issues about the size of categories
or trying to avoid particular authors swamping a category, please feel
free to move one or both.

> SubCategory: Books/Time: Gap-Filler: Drabble

> Wise Enough (552): Tanaqui
> PG-13, Reason for Rating: adult themes
> Romance Partners: n/a
> Faramir is tempted to take the Ring from Frodo.

I'm not entirely sure why this one is in Gap-Filler, as my first
category choice was "Books/Time: The Lord of The Rings", unless it was
to make the category viable, since it did mention gap-filler as the
first of the subcategory choices. But on reflection, it's more of an
alternative perspective of an event in the book, rather than a
gap-filler per se. If moving it would mean you would need to replace it
with another drabble to make the category viable, there are several of
mine in "Books/Time: Post-Ring War: General Drabble" and "Books/Time:
Post-Ring War: Gondor Drabble" that would fit much better in gap-filler
than this one. For instance, "Returning from a Wedding (1379)" that I
referred to above would be more appropriate here.

> SubCategory: Books/Time: The Silmarillion: Poetry

> Tale of Isildur, The (550): Tanaqui
> G, Reason for Rating: n/a
> Romance Partners: n/a
> Isildur steals the fruit of Nimloth, in the style of Chaucer's Canterbury
> Tales

While I'm happy for this to be here, it might fit better in "Genres:
Crossovers: Poetry", as it's an "in the style of" piece like my
nomination "Palantír (546)", which is in "Genres: Crossovers: Poetry"

> SubCategory: Races/Places: Gondor: Denethor and Finduilas

> Cup of Bitterness: First Meeting (531): Tanaqui
> PG-13, Reason for Rating: adult themes
> Romance Partners: Denethor/Finduilas
> The events surrounding the birth of Faramir, from Denethor's POV -- Denethor
> introduces his new son to his father, and has a first encounter with the
> palantir.

This really ought to be in the main category "Races/Places: Gondor", as
Denethor's relationship with Finduilas is only a small part of the
story, which gives nearly equal weight to Denethor's relationships with
Faramir, Ecthelion, Adrahil, Boromir, Thorongil and, of course, that
pesky palantír.

> Main Category Races/Places: Men
> A mother's duty (1384): Tanaqui
> G, Reason for Rating: n/a
> Romance Partners: n/a
> Finduilas seeks aid from Ioreth in the Houses of Healing...

This could also go (and would probably fit better in) "Races/Places:
Gondor: Vignette", as it's very similar in theme to several of the other
stories in that subcategory.

Once again, thanks to all the organisers for all your hard work!

Cheers, Liz

Thanks. It was probably the hardest part of this entire Awards year. ;-)

Since you're the author and realize you should have caught it, I'll go ahead
and change it. ;-)

No problem. It doesn't leave PRW\Gen Drabble inviable to move these.

Thate would be exactly why. We don't read all those stories to decide which
subcategory they go it (though sometimes it was necessary to look into
them). That's why we ask for suggestions for subcategories.

But on reflection, it's more of an alternative

No need to ask for more complications. Gap-Filler\Drabble is viable without
this story. I've moved it back to LOTR/Drabble. ( See below. Gap-Filler is
a graduated category and therefore wasn’t available for the top 3 choices of
an author).

>

This does create a problem because Crossovers wasn't even one of the 3
choices. This is important, folks. This is why we asked authors to approve
all the details and not just the fact that a story was nominated. The
choices here were The Silmarillion, Men and then Drama. I'm gonna hafta put
my foot down on this one. Otherwise, every author could say "Wait, I'd
rather my stoy be in this category!" and then we'd have to do the whole
categorization over again.

So, sorry, but this one will stay. Fixing mistakes in categorizing is one
thing, but changing choices this late in the game is another. The only
exceptions to that are two of Werecat's poems which aren't viable in any of
the 3 choices. Since they must be in a viable subcategory, I've put them in
LOTR/Poetry. If we hear from her before the 4th Check Ballot, she can
choose which viable category to put them in. Keep this in mind for next
year. Really think before you approve of your nominations. And I'm saying
this to everyone, Tanaqui, not just you.

Subcategorization is a different animal from what I said above because they
are more fluid. Authors give or approve of suggestions only. Also, Gondor
being a graduated category, Authors couldn't have put it in their 3 choices
before Check ballot season, which is too late. That's why we might change
those.

Graduated category again and it won't leave the former category inviable to
move it so, I've moved it.

Hi Ainae

Thanks for the changes you've made and your very clear and reasonable
explanations of why things have or haven't been changed.

I'm sure that all of us, having now seen the new combination of
nomination and categorisation process this year, now understand much
more clearly how it works and what kinds of things we should put in
the "subcategories" field - and that we will therefore be able to make
the categorisers' jobs a lot easier next year.

Cheers, Liz

This is my first time at the MEFAs and I'm really impressed at the hard work and dedication you people put in here. My most heart-felt congratulations to everybody involved (my mind refuses to imagine the amount of work that went into sorting out the different categories)
