Prepare for the last check ballots! Posted by Ainaechoiriel June 10, 2005 - 1:06:54 Topic ID# 4733
There will be no more check ballots after the #4's. So if you see something
that needs to be changed, post it tomorrow. Because tomorrow evening I hope
to post the final ballots. The only things that will change after that are
if an author pulls a story out or an incomplete becomes complete.

Final Ballot posting does not mean that Voting Season is open. It isn't.
It's just Reading Season. But, again, you can go ahead an record your
comments on the MEFA2005 site. You have three choices for their settings:

Draft: Not visible to anyone but you and probably the admins, even during
Voting Season. Not counted.
Tentative: Not visible to anyone but you and probably the admins, until the
end of Voting Season. Will be counted.
Final: You're done with it. Not visible to anyone but you and probably the
admins, until the beginning of Voting Season. Will be counted.

Some of you may wonder why Voting Season is 2 months and more away. Because
we need time to read all these stories (or the subset of all these stories
that interest us). Since we don't have a single archive and it would be
nearly impossible for any one person to have been to every LOTR archive, if
we started voting now, we'd have WAY less comments because there would be so
many stories not read. In fact, so far, I've only commented on about 6
stories. I have a lot more on my list I'd like to read and I've only
browsed through the letter A. Some of these stories I've read of, seen
around. But so many I haven't. Without ample Reading Season I may never
get a chance to read them.

So, things will quiet down here on the list. But stick around. And be sure
to poke your head up around August 16th for the beginning of Voting Season.
In the meantime, read. And make some Awards Banners. We've got a long way
to go with those.

Ok, just for clarity's sake: when final ballots are posted, does that
mean that on the MEFA2005 site, the filter searches will offer only
one category choice per story? No more first, second, third category
searches? I ask because now that I've finally worked my way down my
own nominations list (at 2 am!), I'm ready to tackle the actual ballots.

I tip my virtual hat to the categorizers--good lord, that was a lot of
stories! Cheers!

I certainly hope so. Because once categories are set in stone, we won't
need the 1st, 2nd and 3rd choices.

Okay, I've got to go do some realy work now.....

Yeah! And we thought last year was tough! But really the MEFA2005 site made
all but Check Ballot season easier (Thanks, Anthony!) and the growth of
stories is a point of success. More stories means more potential members
which means more readers and more potential reviewers and more potential
successful awards!

We nearly doubled or nomination intake in the second year. Wow.
Membership, too, mind you. The positive thoughts like that help keep me
sane.

Hi Dwim,

I received an email from Anthony earlier that said, among other things,

"If I remember correctly, after CheckBallots is done, the filters will
automatically change back to being by Main Category and SubCategory."

So it looks like the "Browse Stories" page will now display a "Main
Category" option instead of the first, second, and third choice
categories. And I assume (but am not certain) that the sub-categories
list will include all of the subcategories for a given category, not
just the three mandatory ones.

I should add, though, that Anthony is away for his computer for the
weekend. I'm not sure when he'll be back exactly or when he'll get the
changes posted, but it may be a few days.

Marta
