Reading longer stories Posted by gadflygirl01 June 20, 2005 - 18:52:38 Topic ID# 4907
Apologies if this has been discussed before, but just out of
curiosity, how are different people going about reading longer
(novel/novella length) stories when you're in Super Reviewer Mode?
All in one sitting, or 2-3 chapters a day, for example? I'm just
wondering, because personally I tend to enjoy multichapter stories
more when I read them at a somewhat leisurely pace, but I'm also
trying to complete as many reviews as I can...

Cheers,
Aliana

If it's a story that I really like and that I've never read before, I tend to devour it in one sitting. This has been known to get me into trouble, because at times they'll keep me up all night and I'll start the next day with maybe an hour or so of sleep. If I've read the story before, I adopt a leisurely pace and will linger over parts that I really like. If I'm in Super Reviewer Mode...I read the whole thing in one big block, but I make sure I only do one really long story every other day or so. Otherwise I burn myself out on them.

LOL, thanks! That seems like a good way to go.

Hi Aliana,

I have been reading "While the Ring Went South" for the last three or
four days. That's pretty much all I'm reading, but I think it might
make more sense to read a chapter or two, and then read shorter pieces
to review after that. Mix it up.

I usually do long stories in one sitting, or as close to it as I can.
But the story has to catch my attention within the first chapter or two.

If that happens, but I don't feel I have time to read and then review
a novel/novella, I'll set it aside. I've adopted a system where I bold
the entry on my Word doc ballot so I'll know it's one I want to do
later, on the assumption that "later" I can devote a night to just one
story. I'll probably end up with a "novel" ballot because of this.
