I have discovered a neat little tool to help you review more easily.
WordCount is a program for Mac that lets you type in (or copy-and-paste
in) a text passage that you want to do a word count and a character
count on. I've found that it's more reliable than the word count
programs inn word processors (which is really helpful for drabbles -- I
still count by hand because it has been one off or so on a few
occasions, but it's great for getting a quick count on how close you
are). This program even lets you save the text you entered, if you
desire.

But what's really helpful to the MEFAs is the character count. You have
the option of counting with or without spaces, and as long as you set
it to without spaces and don't use special characters that aren't
counted by the web page it should be accurate. The program also doesn't
require much memory -- certainly less than a full word processor.

The only problem is, to my knowledge it only works on Macs. I did a
search at download.com and found one (Text Tally 1.5). It looks like it
does the same thing from the description. Since I don't have a Windows
machine I can't personally test it.

Both are free, and both have a download of less than 400K. Check it
