A problem? Posted by Ainaechoiriel July 20, 2005 - 15:05:22 Topic ID# 4945
Realizing that adding length info was just for readers' information and not
so much for categorization, and that we left length to author's discretion,
this one is a bit much.

I admittedly forgot, sometimes, to set that field properly. I imagine
many others did, too! It's probably just luck that most stories *are*
short story length that saved me.

So should I change it to Novel or Novella? Thoughts?

My impulse is no. The author chose that field (or at least approved of
it), and it's completely possible that a twenty-one chapter piece could
have under 25,000 words. (Some people have chapters that are well under
a thousand words a piece. Depends on the author and the style of the
story.) This is part of why I think the 25,000-word suggestion is too
high for this fandom, but I'll save that debate for the post-mortem.

Why don't you email the author and say you noticed the chapter-count
was a bit high for a short story, and offer to change it if the author
wishes?

Well, since it is only informational, I'll just leave it but Author Liaisons
and authors should look out for this sort of thing next year.
