Image editing software for MacOS X Posted by Anthony Holder August 03, 2005 - 19:15:09 Topic ID# 5033
Marta,

Elana has used GraphicConverter in the past. It works pretty well. It
is shareware from LemkeSoft.

I got her a copy of PhotoShop Elements, which she hasn't used much, but
she says it is pretty good. It is about $100.

There's also GIMP, an open source image editor which has a lot of
capabilities, but might be hard to install. I haven't tried it lately,
though, and they might have improved the install process.

We had an older Adobe product (PhotoDeluxe) which came with a scanner.
Elana used that last year, and it worked pretty well.

Later,
Anthony

I have installed GIMP on a Windows PC recently, and it wasn't hard.
My friend (a GIMP geek) thinks that the installation has become
easier overall, but he doesn't use a Mac either.

According to the website at www.gimp.org/macintosh/ the Mac version
runs on OS/X and requires Apple's X11.app (I'm not a Mac person, so
I'm not familiar with the details).

GIMP is a very full-featured graphics package, which is Open Source --
it's free for non-commercial use, which was its major attraction for
me.

Hope this helps!

Hi Barbara and Anthony,

Thanks for the recommendations. I will try to install it and play
around with it this weekend.
