Duplicate Author Reviews Posted by Anthony Holder August 16, 2005 - 23:30:52 Topic ID# 5075Duplicate Author Reviews:
People have been noticing duplicate author reviews. Here's what's up.
Each story has a link to an author review.
For all stories that are part of the same main category (e.g., BT: The
Hobbit), but are not one of the required subcategories (i.e., drabble,
poem, incomplete), that link points to the same review. On the author
review reading page, you'll see that listed as BT: The Hobbit: General.
Drabble author reviews would come out as BT: The Hobbit: Drabble.
That said, the policy statement is that you can, if you choose, use the
same text for multiple author reviews, rather than writing a new author
review for each category/required subcategory. Thus, some folks have
decided to copy/paste their author review into multiple places.
There is not a 'use this text for all author reviews of this author'
option.
AFAIK, last year Author Reviews had to be more or less independent
(with maybe a bit of duplication being allowed, but not wholesale
duplication).
So Anthony the programmer says:
Author Reviews work exactly as I was told to make them work.
Anthony the person who hasn't, but could, use the site to read/vote on
stories/authors says:
I don't really like the way Author Reviews are set up, but that's the
way people wanted it, and it's really too late now to change it for
this year.

Re: Duplicate Author Reviews Posted by Ainaechoiriel August 17, 2005 - 0:53:17 Topic ID# 5075We can discuss Author Reviews and how they are done in the post mortem as we
did last year, when we decided to keep them but allowing people to copy
them. They are definitely harder to write than story reviews. I guess the
only thing we're missing in Author Awards is viability. Less than 3 authors
per subcategory means inviable. Sorry, if I didn't explain that before. I
had thought about allowing Ficlet where viable and stated by the author.
Which is only a few places. We can IM about it tomorrow if it should be
changed. Right now I'm 48 minutes late getting to bed (thus no posted
reviews tonight, sorry folks) and I've been told I MUST be to work on time,
which means I need to get to sleep.
