I think I've said it before, but I'll happily say it again, I just love the

balanced blending of stone and growth, how each complimente and enhances the
other, and how wonderful to see that crusty old Gloin can see it as well.

How wonderful to find something from you that I haven't read, how
heartbreaking to consider the end of an Age, the the Heirs should no longer
be tutored in Rivendell. How agonizing to feel Eldarion's pain at such a
decision, to feel the weight of the ages and the responsibility of not only
the Kingdom of Gondor, but of Mankind. What a shame to come to realize what
must be done.

What a delightful tale. Your characterization of Sam is wonderful, and I
love how warm and homey, and *Hobbity* your style is, and you maintain it
well through-out. Sam's vision is well done, with smooth transitions. I
especially love his meeting with Celeeborn, you use just the right amount of
compassion and nobility in his speech and actions. It's bittersweet to see
him hand off the Book to Elanor, and sail to spend his last days with Frodo.

Denethor must have felt great remorse and bitterness during the hours he
spent with his wounded, unconscious son; and this vignette brings out the
bereaved father's anguish. The sense of Denethor's being past the end of his
endurance, of having lost too much, and the horrible realization of the pain
he caused Faramir by sending him out without a farewell, is well-written
here.

largely fanon or extrapolation, just because Tolkien gives us such few
details, but your version seemed very reasonable. I especially liked the
idea of Frodo's using the book as a way to hold the demons as bay. That it
wasn't just his duty but it was a tool to help him deal with whatever
psychological issues he had. Very perceptive, I think, and very realistic if
my own experience is any indicator.

I read this quite a while ago and never reviewed (bad me!) so I might as
well do it here where it can count for more than just some nice feelings. I
don't know how much I can say about this fic except that it struck me as
very hobbity and proper. The emotions of the two characters in love are very
clearly presented and quite believable, as are all the characters
themselves. Another aspect I thought was quite nice was the fact that it had
a similar feel to Tolkien's own writing though it was definitely its own
style; a happy storytime feel. I think Tolkien would have liked this one a
lot.

I beta'ed this, but because SML leaves so little to be done to her fics, I
don't think you could, by rights, consider me biased - unless it is simply
that I am biased towards good fic.
I absolutely ADORE seeing real issues addressed in fanfic. There are things
that you simply know they would have had to deal with and when I find an
author who has the maturity and experience to have dealt with some of them
(or who can fake it well enough to fool me) I am ecstatic! This piece is
heartbreaking, believable and brilliant. The author knows enough of her
stuff to not say anything incorrect (and considering the incredible amount
of misinformation out there about nursing issues, many authors write
incorrect things about it in their fanfics) and is able to bring a
sensitivity and understanding to a subject that few people want to talk
about.
Besides the realism, SilverMoonLady's gentle touch with a fic conveys a deep
respect and empathy for this subject. She is never overbearing with it, but
simply presents facts and conveys the terrible heartbreak those who have to
watch this from the outside and can do nothing. PPD is heartbreaking even
today, with modern medicines and treatments available. SML's presentation is
a very perceptive look at how hobbits might have handled such an issue.
Lovely, heartbreaking and thought provoking. My favorite type of fic!

cloak. I can see Denethor putting it into storage (if he didn't destroy it),
but in that case I don't think Faramir would naturally think to retrieve it,
especailly so soon after Denethor's death. If it was sent to Dol Amroth
Faramir wouldn't have any easy access to it, and if Boromir had kept it he
wouldn't have had any good reason to give it to Faramir before seeking
Rivendell; after all, it wasn't like he thought he would die.
This story provides a very neat explanation for how Faramir, who had only
the haziest of memories concerning Finduilas, came by the cloak. It's also a
beautiful tale about instilling memories of the past in his son, and about
the value of legacy. And besides, it has a realistic portrayal of Denethor
without making him into a monster -- something I appreciate very much! All
in all a good tale.

see the White Tree in bloom again (to Frodo at Henneth Annun), and Aragorn's
and Gandalf's actually finding the White Tree again on the slopes of
Mindolluin. I particularly liked Faramir's remembrances of Boromir -- not
too angsty, which is a very nice change to see these days, when so many
authors portray Faramir as having nothing but the unhappiest memories for
his brother. I think he'd have those, too, but other memories besides. And
it was a nice touch to introduce how Faramir would help Aragorn with
politics -- that is another thing that I often find missing, or else at the
forefront; most people have a hard time keeping it in the background without
banishing it completely. I know I do. Anyway, this was a very nice read.

well through-out. Sam's vision is well done, with smooth transitions. I

spent with his wounded, unconscious son; and this vignette brings out the

he caused Faramir by sending him out without a farewell, is well-written
here.

well do it here where it can count for more than just some nice feelings. I
don't know how much I can say about this fic except that it struck me as
very hobbity and proper.

All
in all a good tale.

too angsty, which is a very nice change to see these days, when so many
authors portray Faramir as having nothing but the unhappiest memories for
his brother.
