Well it's certainly a much more interesting set of Orcs in this story than
one usually sees. I'm in two minds about the line-swapping, as it really
does dilute the rivalry (as opposed to plain antipathy and hatred) between
Grishnákh and Uglúk, which I personally love, but in terms of serving the
broader purpose of making an Orc band come alive, it does work. I quite
liked Lugdush, and the clan-oriented survivalism of the Uruk-hai, as well as
the ways in which their elvish lineage gets played out in the exhaustion of
bringing a child (or children) into the world. The final battle between
Éomer and Uglúk was well-done, I thought, and an interesting moment. I
suppose Éomer's acknowledgment that Uglúk fought well was as close to a
cross-cultural connection between Orcs and Men as it is possible to come.
Definitely an enjoyable read.

What I love about this story is that Kuon the oliphaunt is such an imperious
character, despite having no speaking part. And the evocation of the
different cultures that A L Milton has created gives one a feeling of being
immersed in a world that feels full and grounded, that has its own gravity.

I have to admit that I only have a passing acquaintance with the characters
in this piece. But the races are definitely there, both the house of the
Elf-friends and the Easterlings. More than that, I am always amazed by how
well you nail human nature here, and the point you raise (where exactly is
the boundary between man and beast?) is a good one. It makes me wonder if
this wasn't a road like the one Melkor used to make Orcs from Elves.

This is the most gorgeous little Legolas story, featuring delightful
characters. I love Tinania - and the suggestion that Legolas's most
perceptive brother might be interested in her. And having Gandalf turn up as
a provider of festive jollity is something to relish. I hope you feel
inspired to extend your stories of Legolas's childhood. I love this world.

This story was a very enjoyable read. I think I most appreciate the
treatment of Celeborn. The part where Aragorn is describingCeleborn (and
comparing him to Thranduil) reminded me in a weird way of Marnie's essay
"That Tall Fellow Next to galadriel". It seems like the author of this piece
has taken that interpretation and incarnated him in this story. His advice
make sense, but more than that his sorrow is tangible. It was a great read.

This story was a pleasant read for many reasons. The author dares to explore
the darker side of an elf who serves the dark lord only, his opponent is a
young elf, who cannot remember who she is and where she is coming from. The
further the stort enfolds, the more it becomes clear the why and how. It
feels like scaling an onion, the layers are woven into each other. This
story leaves you enough to wonder and speculate about in the end: it makes
you eager to read more.

Sirion's Gift is compelling story that reveals a hidden side of Amrod. With
detail and care, the author explores a possible romance between a good
written OFC. What strikes me is the eye for detail in the surroundings,
behaviour and body language that tells the tale as well as the dialogue. For
me she paints a beuatiful picture about the live of a somewhat minor
character in Tolkien's world, a side that we rarely see. It surely calls for
more!

read it, it shed a light on the relationship would be between Nerdanel and
her sons. Something tells me that this must have been a difficult choice for
all. But Nerdanel's pain is tangible, she weeps and mourns for her lost
sons. One can only hope at the end that maybe Nerdanel can hear the laments
of her remaining son Maglor, who sings of pain, sorrow and regret. A
beautiful poem, with good pacing and cleverly worded. Every word counts with
this piece of work.

This story surprised me in the sense that I never thought about how Eowyn
learnt how to ride a horse, well it is obvious in the books and movies that
she can, but this picture is beautifully painted by Isil. Determination, a
strong will and daring to choose for something she really wants: this is an
Eowyn I love to see. And so young! Not only is this a strong
characterisation, but she writes a tradition of bonding with a horse, that I
find very fitting for this culture. Writing confidentially and passionate,
the author writes a convincing story that feels true to the book.

For a first story, this is truly amazing. It is AU, but the author tells you
what would happen if Arwen does not survive giving birth to her first child.
A while ago, I read somewhere that unions of elves and men are often ill
fated. Even love can keep them together, but since Arwen chooses the fate of
men, she is just as vulnerable to death as any other woman in childbirth.

The grief of Aragorn is so tangible: it is heartbreaking. Yet his loyalty
towards her makes him return, wishing to be with her or to talk with her.
One can only be happy at the end that he finds someone who makes his heart
happy, whether it is a man or not. The use of Elanor is profound and adds a
deeper meaning to Arwen's approval. Luthien's dancing feet awoke the Elanor;
the fact that her descendant brings back life to the Elanor and to Aragorn's
life as well is incredibly touching and gives a deeper meaning to this
story. Aragorn loved Arwen more then anything in the world. The fact that he
found someone who brings back the light in his life is well written and very
tender. I appreciate the way the author treats this story: it's written
thoughtfully and tastefully.

With Friends like these, I was introduced to the word elflings for the first
time. As of the first chapter the author let me plunge into the worlds of
concerns, troubles, mischief and thoughts of the Sons of Elrond, Legolas, at
some degree Arwen and, of course, their friends. Friendship is the central
theme, but I found myself quite often at the edge of my seat, wondering what
would happen next. Then the author made me laugh so hard that I could so
sympathised with one of the characters. As you go along you start to care
deeply for the characters. The angst they go through make you want to tell
them that it will be alright and the drama they experience is heart
wrenching. Being a part of a twin has its advantages, but can be a burden as
well.

Jay plays with different genres, I can imagine that it is hard to choose,
but it makes the story versatile. For every reader there is something in
there to love. The dialogue is fresh and witty, Jay described the homes of
the elves, and their traditions very well, which makes the narrative parts
very vivid and engaging.

Her story telling made me want to read this story from the first one to the
final page, and left me wanting more. But every story needs an end, she
carefully chooses an ending that yet completes this story, but leaves the
reader the impression that more of this storytelling will follow.

Along came a spider starts with a deadly rush that made my heart skip a few
beats. Jay's Elladan and Elrohir have come of age, proud young men who can
hold their own in battle. But soon after all the action, the author writes
such incredible angst and drama that is hard to shake off. The twins go
through hell; the portrayal of the Rivendell is touching. I especially
appreciate the portrayal of Celebrian. Astonishing characterisation is the
first impression when I read it. With a confident and strong voice, the
author really gets into the character's mind.

perspective of Thandruil in this story: it presents the mixture of a King of

I have read several pieces about Tar-Miriel's actions in the time before the
Downfall, but this one was different, though. I think it's because it's so
minimalistic. Tar-Miriel is definitely there, but she reports everything was
such a distanced tone. It's chilling, almost like Miriel is already

remarkable. I especially liked the white walls and the descriptive work that
eventually transformed these white walls into white dust. I also enjoyed the
emotions caught up in this poem. There was grief, pride, joy,
love...basically the entire gauntlet. It was as if the poet couldn't decide
whether to describe Gondolin, praise her, or grieve for her. So he ended up
doing all three. And it worked very well.

I really like the way this poem hints at even darker things to come. For
example, the lines about Feanor's fire still not being quenched (even after
burning the boats) made for both dark and powerful foreshadowing. I'm still
not sure I could ever pity the Feanorians, but this poem comes close to
convincing me. I also like the line about the sea being an accusation. There
was some nice imagery associated with it.

I enjoyed watching all the events unfold through Celeborn's eyes. His own
peculair perspective on both the dwarves and on Feanor's kin shades this
tale throughout, and I loved his instant distrust of Annatar. He's a shrewd
one, and I suspect he might have been a bit suspicious even without
Gil-galad's warning. The use of Celebrian as a way to ease the bargaining
was inspired, and she was fun to watch. I loved the fact that she was
besotted with horses. I think most young girls go through that stage at one
point or another.

I think this may be my favorite description of the Halls of Mandos and what
elves experience when they go there. It's so very elven. There, yet not
there. And Maedhros is an ideal candidate to head the POV. Feanor was also a
very welcome addition to this story, and as always in a good Feanor
characterization, he both irritated and intrigued me. I loved his remark on
how Namo could use lessons in oratory. That made me laugh. But the
conversation afterwards was brilliant. There was quite a bit of subtlety
from both Maedhros and Feanor, and I loved the fact that they both know it
and they were both reading between the lines. This is a conversation I would
have enjoyed sitting in on, though I know that much of it would have
probably passed me by.
