This is a lovely short story about Elrohir being 'saved' by a singer on the
shore. The writer has used enough detail to allow the reader to imagine
being in the position Elrohir finds himself in, without going overboard into
the 'purple' vein of prose.
I like that the author does not reveal who the elf Elrohir sees is, but the
discriminating reader should know the 'singer by the shore' who, hopefully,
still lingers and saved Elrohir's live from the tide.
It is a nice glimpse into a young Elrohir, and how often we as parents write
off our children's stories as 'overactive' imagination. A well told story.

This story makes perfect sense out of the unanswered questions of just why
Gandalf was at first reluctant to go to Faramir's aid, and why he knew that
Merry had ridden among the Rohirrim. A very good explanation, and shows why
Pippin was searching so urgently for his missing cousin. It brings out the
consequences of foresight, and the difficulty of setting priorities and
making decisions in matters of life or death.

wonderful characterization of Merry, Sam and Pippin, all of them desperate

It brings out the
consequences of foresight, and the difficulty of setting priorities and
making decisions in matters of life or death.

after the Quest muses on their last night there, just before they left. Some
wonderful characterization of Merry, Sam and Pippin, all of them desperate
