Merry learns what it means to pray as he sits by Frodo's side after the
Quest. The author wisely leaves all things to do with "religion" to one
side, a good choice, as JRRT said hobbits were not religious, and simply
shows him reaching out blindly in desperation.

A moment that cries out for a gap-filler. Bilbo observes Frodo's grief at
his parents' funeral, and reaches out to him. Very sweetly done, and showing
why Frodo came to love Bilbo so.

This is a Cormallen fic, but that doesn't half do justice to this author's
gorgeous lyrical prose. It shows Merry's painful thoughts in a wonderful
stream-of-consciousness style, as he waits for his Pippin to wake up, his
realization of all they have gone through to arrive at that point, that they
all yet live, and that they have all accomplished what needed to be
done--but he is not really complete until Pippin wakes, and Pippin's first
words are so perfect! This is a Merry-and-Pippin who are truly a part of one
another.

A very unusual look at what it was like for Pippin after his injuries at the
battle of the Black Gate. He very nearly died, and his spirit fled; how was
it he survived? What made his spirit return to his body? The answer in this
story is very insightful, and makes use of other elements of Tolkien's
mythos.

Among the many stories of the homecoming of the Travellers, this one stands
out for me from the first time I read it. Although it is primarily a story
of the romance of Merry and Estella, it is also a story of the strain
between Pippin and his father. For me, the most memorable chapter, and the
emotional climax of the the story, is chapter fourteen, in which, in order
to heal the breach between the Thain and the Brandybucks, Pippin recounts
the tale of Denethor, Boromir and Faramir. It is an emotionally wrenching
scene, and Pippin's equating Merry with Faramir is devastating to his
father. Yet that is not the end of the tale, and there is yet to be found
much suspense and adventure before the very satisfying end.

This little AU story explores what might have happened if Pippin had ended
up a father right after returning from the Quest. It begins with a night of
drunken lust, and gradually developes from there. The author manages to
avoid most of the expected cliches, and the OC character of the unlucky
bride is very well done. It's very sad from the start, and ends very sadly,
as well, yet it is also a sweet and gentle look at Pippin as a young parent.

I loved this from the first time I read it. It is a wonderful picture of the
relationship between Paladin and Pippin, one in which they may have had some
difficulties, but were never estranged, as many writers make them. It is a
very realistic and painful conversation between father and son, as they
compare themselves one to the other, and both feel they have come up short.
Pippin finally comes to realize that he is up to the job of Thain, whether
he feels ready for it or not, and that possibly no one is ever really ready
for such a job, but can only do their best when it comes to them. Very
touching, sad and sweet.

side, a good choice, as JRRT said hobbits were not religious, and simply
shows him reaching out blindly in desperation.

why Frodo came to love Bilbo so.
