I loved this story the first time I read it. It is so wonderfully done in
Merry's own voice. It has humor, friendship, danger, suspense, sorrow and
joy; a lovely tale, though I do miss the one chapter in Frodo's POV that the
author later posted separately.

Saving the white tree is a turning even, as I see it, in the history of M.E.
; it is quite the difficult thing to be able to put it into writing , what
is more difficult is to put it into a piece that not only narrates the event
but gives insight into the characters as well! One of the finer points is
how the narration seems so real.Yes the deed was heroic but Isildur was only
a man. That sort of credibility you can't find often when you're talking
Numenorian tales. I love the fact that Isildur is not only a courageous man
but that you can also feel that he is youthful and has the natural
spontaneity that comes with youth. Another example is how Amandil has the
warmth of the grandfather and the insight and righteous baring of nobility.
The characters are all rich in depth and colour which helps the reader
concentrate instead of just skimming through the events. Another important
thing is that while the descriptions are not lengthy, they manage to make
you feel as though you're an invisible witness throughout the entire story.
The story is not gripping, it possess the authenticity of an account taken
right of a historical recording. I believe it will remain one of the most
memorable accounts out there .So well done!

I am an absolute sucker for stories that show a musically talented Pippin,
and this one is just beautiful. There are two chapters, but really they are
the exact same sequence of events from two points of view: first Pippin, as
he grieves over the devastating idea that he may no longer be able to play
an instrument, and then Merry, as he confronts Pippin's loss as well. The
struggle for Pippin to regain his ability is briefly but vividly told, and
the ending is very gentle and sweet.

things as sitting still and walking slowly. It starts with his babyhood and
continues to the cusp of the Quest, when he is struck by the realization
that he will need to keep his pace to that of Frodo, sticking as closely as
he can, and no running off after diversions. Very well done, and very close

the scene with Pippin and the palantir from Merry's point of view. It is
written in the present tense, which lends it a sense of urgency and
