FW: [mefa-discussion] Awards Schedule Posted by Marta Layton March 25, 2006 - 10:28:49 Topic ID# 6845
Hey guys,

Over at the discussion list weıve been nailing down the schedule for this
yearıs awards. It will be:

May 1-31: Nominate stories
June 1-7: Nominations finalized
June 8-21: Volunteers create subcategories.
June 22-30: Ballots posted to this Yahoo group
July 1-August 15: Reading Season
August 16-November 4: Voting season
November 4-8: Polls to vote on awards banners
November 8: Results announced at midnight

One important change: all days will end at midnight GMT (British time)
instead of midnight US Central time like we did in previous years.

If you are at all confused about this, I highly recommend

http://www.worldtimezone.com/

This site displays the current time in every time zone. Simply find your
time zone and compare it to the time in London. However many hours
difference there are, that is the number of hours you are ahead of or behind
GMT. So for example, it is now 4:09 PM in England and 11:09 AM in New York.
That means those of us in Eastern time (US East Coast) are 5 hours behind
GMT. So nomination season will end at midnight between May 31 and June 1 in
London, which translates to 7 PM May 31 for Eastern time.

Another example: Itıs now 12:09 AM in Singapore and 4:09 PM in London. That
means Moscowıs time zone is eight hours ahead of GMT, and nomination season
there will end at 8 AM on June 1.

Hope that makes sense.

Marta

I tried to join in the discussion list, but it apparently never took. Can
you get me on, or do I need to go back to yahoo and try again?

Hello, Marta,
What is the publication deadline for the nominations? March 31st or April
30th?
Thanks!

Actually, stories just need to be published at an eligible site before
theyıre nominated. Eligible means (basically) that you donıt have to log in
to read the story, and that if the storyıs more than one part, then thereıs
an easy way to get from page to page.

So in theory I could post a story on May 12 and you could nominate it on May
13.

This is a change from previous years and came out of some questions AmandaK
asked at the LiveJournal. I was going to announce it here and the LJ but we
just decided on it not too long ago.

I think that's a good change personally - given
all the timezones are based upon GMT - it's going
to make it a lot easier for everyone to work out
the time in relation to them.

Do I understand right, that people can enter reviews now, while
nominations are going on, and don't have to wait until reading season?

(Love reading season schedule, BTW. Right during swimming season.
Whilst little ones are splashing through swim lessons, mom can be
reading by the poolside)

Thanks,
Lin

Hi Lin,

That's the theory. Actually, there's a bug in the code that handles reviews
so you can't enter reviews right now while Anthony sorts that out. As soon
as Anthony has fixed that he'll bring reviews back online. If you try to
enter a review now you should get an error message, but you will be able to
enter reviews again soon.
