Looking for two volunteers Posted by aure\_enteluva May 26, 2007 - 11:30:01 Topic ID# 7835
Hey guys,

We're getting closer to that June 1 starting date, and the other
volunteers and myself are busy dotting our i's and crossing our t's.
We have had a lot of people volunteer, but I still need two people to
do two things. If you're interested in doing either one, please say so.

First, last year we had a promoter make announcements to the LJ
community http://community.livejournal.com/middleearthnews/. This is a
daily newsletter posted that contains fandom news, and it has a pretty
broad reading base, but so far no one has volunteered to post there.
If you're interested in doing this email me and I'll talk to you about
the details of exactly what you'd be doing.

I also need someone to be part of a ratings panel. In previous years,
when an author was unsure what rating they should give their story,
they discussed it with their liaisons. This year, if an author has a
question about what rating a story should be given a group of three
volunteers will read the questionable sections and make a
recommendation to the author. I already have two volunteers for this
three-member panel (myself and Oshun), but I need a third. If you
don't mind reading adult-rated stories and have the time to volunteer,
let me know.

Thanks!

Marta

Hi, Marta,

I'd be happy to promote the awards in MEN. I am already a faithful reader
of and occasional contributor to that community.

I'd be happy to help out reading those adult scenes if you still need
a third reader.

I know Juno has already volunteered, but if you want some alternates, I'm
good. I've got no problem with reading adult stuff.

Thanks so much for the volunteering.

I've replied to you off-list with instructions about how to make MEFA
announcements.

Hi Isabeau,

Juno did already volunteer, and so did Annmarwalk at the LJ. I'm happy to
step back and focus my energies on other areas of the awards, so I'll let
the two of them along with Oshun make up the panel (though I will be around
to answer questions about MEFA policy and stuff).

I'm marking you down as an alternate. RL has a way of coming up, and it will
be good to have someone who can help out when needed.

Thanks,
Marta

Do you still need someone for the LJ posting?

Hi Sandy,

Nope - Branwyn offered to make those announcements. I'll keep you in mind as
a backup, though, in case we need someone else.

Yayness! Let there be smut and gore!

Hilarity aside, how's this going to work in practice? Are you going to
mail me a bit I ought to read and I simply mail back saying "Yes, I
think this is pushing the line betweeen R and NC-17, because ..."?

Cheers,

I was in a hurry and really didn't send a very
intelligible reply.
This is Pearl Took and I was wondering if you still
need someone for the Live Journal postings? That
sounds like something I could do.

Let me know :-)

Today I'm working on emails for various groups of volunteers, telling them
what exactly they will be doing. You and the rest of the ratings panel
(Oshun, annmarwalk, Isabeau, and Sulriel) should receive an email from me
today or tomorrow about how this will work. I don't want to overwhelm the
list with the logistical stuff.

Hi Pearl,

Don't worry about being in a hurry. :-)

Branwyn already volunteered to post at Middle-earth News so I have that
particular group covered. However, I am always eager to get promoters from
more places. If you're interested in helping and you know of another place
where the MEFAs could be promoted, I'd love your help in promoting them.

Check out http://www.mefawards.net/mefa2007/index.php?page=FAQvolunteers.
Here you'll find a list of promoters and the groups at which they are making
announcements. If a group isn't listed and you'd like to make announcements
there, let me know and I'll include you when I'm sending out the
announcements to promoters.

That goes for anyone else too - if you have a group you'd like to make
announcements at and no one else is making announcements there, I'd love to
have your help.

Hi, Marta, just a note to let you know I'm here and getting psyched up and
ready to work. I figure I will be your far-left of broadmindedness on the
question of sex. However, I squick easily on violence and gore, so that should
even out nicely I think. (Just kidding, I will look forward to seeing the
guidelines and methods you propose.)

Hi Oshun,

Thanks for speaking up. I'm glad you're getting excited; so am I.

I'll be emailing you and the other people who volunteered to help with the
ratings panel tomorrow. Today I spent writing emails to liaisons about what
they'd be doing, but I haven't forgotten about you.
