Hey gang,
As you probably realized by now, nominations are closed. That means
that no new stories will be added to what you may want to read and
review, and many voters begin to review in earnest around this time of
the year.
You can vote on any story nominated (provided you're not the author),
from now until December 30. That's a long time, but don't put off
reviewing until the end. This year we have around 725 stories, and
while no one should try to review all of them, it's always a good idea
to get started early and often.
To vote, you will need to enter a review for a story. Each review
gives its story points (up to ten for 1,000 characters). Stories are
sorted into subcategories of between 5 and 13 stories, and the three
stories in each subcategory with the highest number of points are
given first, second and third place. Stories that get an above-average
number of points but aren't in the top three in their subcategory are
given an honorable mention. These reviews will also be displayed at
our website, so you are giving an author new feedback, even if they
don't win an award.
For help figuring out how to enter a vote, see the "How do I vote?"
FAQ at www.mefawards.net/MEFA2007/index.php?page=FAQvoting#vot_1
But before you can vote you have to find a story to vote for. For help
finding stories, see the "How do I find a story to vote for?" FAQ at
www.mefawards.net/MEFA2007/index.php?page=FAQvoting#vot_15. Among
other things, this FAQ explains the filters, which help you find
groups of stories involving the same characters and settings, as well
as a host of other criteria. Read the FAQ for an explanation of how
these can help you find the kind of stories you'd like to review.
Also, many reviewers have offered their own suggestions about how to
write more and better reviews. These are suggestions only, but
hopefully some of the suggestions will work for you. You can read
these reviewing strategies at
www.mefawards.net/MEFA2007/index.php?page=FAQreviewing.
Two more things going on, and then I'll shut up. :-)
1. In a week or two I will be posting what's known as a "check ballot"
here. This is a list of the pieces competing in each sub-category. If
it looks like we placed a piece in the wrong main category or
sub-category, you will be able to ask for it to be moved to the right
one. We do trust that the information authors supply when filling out
their forms is accurate, but categorizers are as human as anyone else.
If your story ends up in a main category that you didn't approve,
please let us know so we can look into why it's there.
2. Don't forget, if you want to participate in the MEFA Junkie
(reviewer recognition program), you MUST enter your goal for how many
stories you want to review at www.mefawards.net/MEFA2006/ by JULY 29.
And finally.... a big THANK YOU to the volunteers who have worked so
hard during nomination season.
