Hey guys,
Aranel, Tanaqui and I have been discussing the problem Larner had with
her reviewing goal. There's a bug that causes a problem if you are
logged in to the MEFA2006 site (http://www.mefawards.net/MEFA2006/)
and then visit the MEFA2007 site (http://www.mefawards.net/MEFA2007/)
while still logging out of the 2006 site first.
Since we're in the middle of an awards year, we decided not to make
any changes that could potentially mess up the current awards. To keep
this problem from happening again, if you go to the MEFA2006 site's
address you will be redirected to the MEFA2007 site.
The results from the 2006 awards are still available at
http://mefawards.net/MEFA_archive/mefa2006_stories.html
http://mefawards.net/MEFA_archive/mefa2006_authors.html
You can also find links to all the stories nominated in 2006 or earlier at
http://www.mefawards.net/MEFA2007/index.php?page=FAQprevnomd
If you need anything else that was available on the MEFA2006 site
please let us know and a volunteer will retrieve it for you. You can
ask here, or you can email techsupport@mefawards.net. You can always
email technical concerns to that address, and policy/general help
questions are welcome at mefasupport@gmail.com.

Marta, will folks still be able to access the reviews from 2006? I
directed someone there recently, to take a look and get a feel for how
the reviewing/voting system works.

Hi Ann
publicly visible in the message history. That should give people an idea
of the kind of things people write in reviews, and a feel for the scores
that each length of review gets.
You can get to the review posts quickly by going down to the message
history "calendar" near the bottom of the group home page
(http://groups.yahoo.com/group/MEFAwards/) and clicking on the links
showing how many posts were made each month for the relevant months.
Last year, the reviews were posted in August-December.
Will that still provide the kind of help people need?
Tanaqui

It should; it's a roundabout way to do it, but if it's what we've got,
then that's what we've got.
Will you also post your reply at the mefas lj community? I posted my
question there as well.
Thanks, Liz!

Hi Ann,
Tanaqui already gave a really good answer, and that may be the quickest
way to find the 2006 reviews. I will add that last years' reviews
started posting on August 17, 2006. Maybe knowing the exact date will help.
Alternately: When I am looking for reviews I use the advanced search.
Anywhere on a Yahoo group where you can search the messages for a
certain phrase I click the "Advanced" link just to the right of the
search bar. (Or you can go to
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/MEFAwards/msearch_adv .) This lets you
search by date. So for instance since I know all the reviews were posted
in the Fall of 2006 I'd tell it to search between something like July 1
and December 1. And I happen to remember the subject line was always
something like "Reviews for [date]", so I search for subjects containing
"Reviews for". It turns up pretty much just the posts where I emailed
reviews to the group.
I hope that helps! Sorry that the timing's bad that you just pointed
someone to the 2006 reviews.

No not really, to be honest. I occassionally go back to the site to
read the reviews I got for my stories or to look up those that I
wrote. With a few clicks and I am there. Since I can't possibly
remember for what kinda stories I wrote a review (or which stories I
still wished to read but never came around to review) for, I still use
the filter options with my wishlist to catch up & read the story and
leave a review on the site they are hosted at. So yeah, I do go back
there when I have time, so if that still could be made available, I'd
be very grateful because the links given only lists the winners.. and
not the others that competed. If this won't be the case, I need to
find another way to get to this data..
Rhapsody
Hi Rhapsody,
I really don't want to bring the 2006 website back because having it
available was creating technical problems with the current year's
database. However, I do want to make the information available to you.
I have an idea, and I've emailed Aranel and Tanaqui privately to see if
it will work or if they have better ideas. As soon as I have a change to
talk with them I'll let you know.

Hi Rhapsody,
The problem is that just logging in to the 2006 site can mess up your 2007 data if you
move from one site to the other. There is no way, without extensive reprogramming, that
we can make the 2006 site "safe" to visit.
To find your reviews quickly in the Yahoo group, use the phrase "reviews for" and your
MEFA username as the search criteria. That will give you all reviews you've written and
received.

all the reviews I did last year into a Word document, to have them handy
in one place, to be able to familiarise myself again with how I did them
and to think about the things I wanted to change (and not change) this year.
Imhiriel
Hi Imhiriel,
The 2006 isn't going to be available anymore. Even after the awards are completed, going
to an older site can still mess up your current information. Once the 2008 awards starts,
the 2007 site will no longer be available. The archive I am working on is going to take the
place of going to previous years' sites.

Heya Imhiriel,
possibly understand every technical aspect of the website so I don't
know what's impossible, possible (but difficult), or relatively easy to do.
But I do know that Aranel just posted a topic over at mefa-discussion
this morning about what information we'd like displayed on the list of
previously-nominated stories. In 2007 this was mainly to help nominators
see what was still eligible to be nominated. (And to help liaisons do
the same thing.) But in 2008, it may also be very helpful to readers
looking for stories nominated in previous years' awards. Currently that
list only includes author name, title, story URL, and whether the story
is eligible again once it's completed. For 2008 we're looking at
including a lot more information, possibly including (at least for more
recent years) a link to the full story details and the reviews submitted
for that story.
Again, I don't want to promise anything technical, as this is all still
at the brainstorming stage. But we'll try to make as much information
available as we can.
Thanks,
Marta
