A delightful series of four drabbles with Faramir, Arwen and Aragorn.
How can one not warm to a series that includes Faramir lustfully
ogling an Elf-hoard of books, Aragorn's opinion of kingly fashions,
and Faramir getting naked?

[warning - some spoilers ahead]
A delightful vignette wherein Lothiriel tries to play matchmaker, or
at least pin down Boromir about what type of woman he would find
suitable for marriage. Boromir's answers are very much in character;
down to earth, realistic and intelligent, though occasionally amusing.
Faramir's wry commentary is a plus.

"Stirrings of Shadow" is a vast, ambitious project from Fiondil, a
writer with a predilection for the epic format. I typically associate
Fiondil's writing with mythic First Age characters, but in "Stirrings
of Shadow" he presents us with a young Aragorn in the court of Thengel
of Rohan. Fiondil envelopes us in a richly detailed account of
Thengel's court, steeped in intrigue as the king's own mother seeks to
overthrow the rule of her son.
Each chapter contains a nugget of adventure or the doings of colorful
original characters like the elf lord Thandir or Widfara, the young
man of the Mark who becomes Aragorn's sworn brother. There is plenty
of conflict to hold readers' interests and keep us eager to read the
next chapter. Plots are thwarted, chldren are kidnapped, and just when
you could safely take a breath, along comes a plague that strikes down
Aragorn even as he tries to heal the sufferers around him.
This is a fine adventure for young Aragorn. I hope that Fiondil will
continue with the tale's telling.
